Fantastic on lap steel through an Ampeg b12. Very smooth and full.
Great on guitar amps in general. Vocals sometimes. Percussion of various sorts.

Re: first mic?
the primary purpose for this mic would be vocals, not instruments...i'd like to not outgrow the mic quickly too. i guess you could say that i'm looking for a real work hourse. durable, nice sounding, semi-all around...live vocal mic AKG 535. Listen to it, though, make sure it suits your voice. It's...

Re: keeping cables organized....
On gigs I put cables in ziploc freezer baggies. No tangles, and quick to deal with.
The recording stuff is in piles on the floor. I need to put in some wall hooks or somethin'.

I'm going to start here before eBay, I figure the possibilities of this thing might be more appreciated here. 8 simultaneous inputs, each with a trim. It's basically a mic preamp, though not a great one. You can record 8 tracks simultaneously with this box. 8 simultaneous outs on TRS connectors. Bui...

Re: Won a ECOPLATE reverb!
Good for you. I've got an Ecoplate III in my spare bedroom/control room. So far no huge issues for lack of isolation. The III was the low-end plate, it's 4x6 or so, and light enough to move by hand. You can upgrade the pickups--I think Jim Cunningham is the guy to talk to about that. Haven't done it...

As far as other dynamic omnis....I'm not specificly aware of any, though I'm sure some exist. Beyer M101 comes to mind. Shure SM 76, which I used on a drum kit to record a live sound gig last week. I really don't use omni dynamics a lot. Someone educate me, what are your most common uses? Gu...

Re: Anyone in TapeOp land own a studiomaster 16-8-2
I used to have one. If it can be answered by vague memory instead of looking at the board, drop me a line.BobbyRay wrote:Anyone in TapeOp land own a studiomaster 16-8-2 besides me? I have some questions, that would apparently have to be answered by someone with the same board.
I gots an MCI 618.

Re: rock-a-billy techniques
if i just record it plain and hi-fi and minimal it just wont sound like what they want..my system just doesnt sound like that. Um, if they have the sound in their instrumentation and playing, your system will record it. They have to sound right in the first place. I'd try an omni mic between the fe...

Re: OSA gear
I am curious about OSA mic pres. Does anyone have any OSA experiances they could share. Sorry but the thread I was directed to earlier today did not help. Thanks Will I've got Averill API (the old ones, prior to the Avedis opamp, which I haven't heard). I've also got OSA here, which I got prior to ...

Re: How long do you hang on to equipment that's out of date?
I hold on to stuff too. I have a 100 year old upright bass that is hopelessly obsolete... Actually, I still have a MidiVerb II in a rack, my very first reverb back in the 80s, maybe early 90s. It has a huge "reverse reverb" that's occasionally useful and is quick to dial up. But I mostly use an Ecop...

Re: Recording a Stand-Up Bass and other session suggestions.
I have done a bit of this, very similar situation, but not all that professionally. Self-release CD for a band I'm in. We did basics live then overdubs. If the bass player and drummer are tight, put them close together. One or two mics on drums, small condensor over and 57 on kick? Or maybe MXL larg...
