Like others have said, there's a time and place for both. For me, in most cases I would say DI. Most synth players only use an amplifier because they have to be heard. In other words, the amp is just an undesired color in between the patch they have created and the sound heard.

The owner of the studio I work at is selling our Mozart and we're going to put the SSL in our Studio A. It's our main tracking console and it stays well maintained. It's located in Lawrence, KS. For serious inqueries please PM me and I will give you his contact info.

These are all going to be short run (200-300 each for the 7" series) so I think we'll wait until a full length 12" to drop coin on a 100% analog session. what studio in larrytown you working in? did blacklodge (i guess its technically in Eu...

I engineer at a studio I don't own, which can be a nice thing not to worry about. I personally charge $25/hour. What the studio charges depends on how much time you buy. A day is 10 hours. Tracking room (Studer 2", HD|3, Amek w/ 24 neve pres, 20' drum vault) $400/day $1800/5 day block $80/hour (incl...

looks like a read this a bit late to reply, but I wanted to mention one thing. Continental breakfast. Just walk into a hotel, sit down and help yourself. No one will stop you. I've never been questioned.
