Great Lake Swimmers

great interview with Tony of the Great Lake swimmers. I have enjoyed his music for years, and of course the stories about how each album is recorded goes along with each release. Tony has such a great voice and the song writing is exceptional, the music gets a lot of well deserved attention in Canad...

interesting thought. could be effects used associated with styles. time and place sort of things. the 80's were ripe with synthetic sounds, gated reverbs, major scales. I guess you could say that Bowie was a fashion, a style, a design. the Beatles were recorded much more transparent, honest sounding.

another Flaming Lips Thread

I know these pop up here and there (flaming lips threads) usually with regards to the Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi. So, nice weather today, and Transmissions from the Satellite Heart came into cue as I was driving and I was taken back to the early 90's out door festival style concerts. probably the Lips...

Magma is the only great french band :D I'll take some issue with that statement and say that Heldon were capable of some greatness. Richard Pinhas is kind of a genius. One of my favorite unknown records of the genre/era is a side project w/ Pinhas called Ose. They only did one record - "Adonia", bu...

i've been on tour with Lil Wayne and T.Pain for the past couple months, if I hear one more song with Auto Tune I will puke my guts out... Question: when one of our current big-name conspicuous-Autotune wizards sings live (say, for example, hypothetically, maybe somebody like T.Pain) and wants the a...

A similar question was posed, and somebody here pointed towards Olivia Tremor Control's Black Foliage for overall balance, I really like the way the bass and vocals fit in the mix. For that matter, Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Airplane over the sea has a good balance too, which would make sense consi...

Honestly, other than jambands, I don't think music goes anywhere anymore. You know, I would completely agree with you here, but I think a lot of jam bands go nowhere too, so it isn't a mutually exclusive sort of thing. I have been thinking about this thread with respect to my own recording. I have ...

Freebird.... ok, seriously. I like modest mouse for keeping a song moving, and the Airplane over the sea keeps moving (especially two headed boy parts one and two). Probably the most crazy example I can think of is Mr. Bungle : Merry go Bye Bye most obvious, Stairway to Heaven my favourite : the fla...

thanks

Thanks for the responses.

I think I am with you about the sample frequency and 16 bit depth, I think 24bit 96khz would make more sense.

I have a sl1200 MK2, I don't think it is really a great sounding turn table, more of a workhorse.

Thanks guys

MY MAc G4 that I spent about 3 grand on now goes for $25 bucks on ebay... ahahaha. yeah, i'm a digi 001 and G4 user as well. I think i bought the digi used for $400, and the G4 dual 800 used for $900. don't...

Turntables - Sumiko

I have heard good things about the Sumiko Pro-Ject lineup, especially for the price. I just noticed this new model: http://www.sumikoaudio.net/project/products/debut_usb.htm Has anybody heard anything about it. Are the converters good, and more importantly, is the pre-amp any good. Thanks BTW, I rea...

good sound, guitars could be louder, but I am a guitar player, so I always think that. Like an earlyer post said, cymbals don't stand out at all. I think you should compair what this sounds to what the band actually sounds like. I haven't seen you, but i would imagine more grinding guitars, more ove...

I like the mix, particularly the guitar low end/bass area, they don't argue for room. I think there is room to improve the vocal sound, give it more separation. I would recommend early Sianspheric for reference, they have a similar sound with a nice balance. If you want to sound space rock... Anyhow...

I am with you. I was looking at Logic, but none of the non-pro software I like supports surround sound, so WTF. PT5 on OS9 is familiar, and it works pleanty good for CD quality.
