Re: stupid question regarding EH12AY7 or any other outboard

Hey JC, Thanks for all the info on this box. I just got one, and I've been digging it and so far, I haven't noticed any of the problems described by others. I do have a question, I was thinking of adding an input transformer, what do you think about that? I have a 10:1 transformer with 600ohm/60kohm...

Re: The Next Legendary Mic Pre

Has anybody tried putting a transformer on the input of the EH? I'm thinking about trying it to get some more gain so it might be usable with my TOMB ribbon.

Re: Whoa! More cowbell than you'll ever possibly need...

Our cowbellist has one of those digital modelling bells. We think his technique has suffered because he spends too much time messing around with the settings on it. Personally, I prefer the warm analog sound of a real cowbell. I think the modelling bell has a shrill, sterile sound.

Re: dumping tape to tools

I have done what you described (except using a 1/4" 8 track and SAW instead of protools, but the same concept). Analog tape machines will always drift a little unless they are synced somehow. A .05% variation in speed will result in about a 100 millisecond change in a 3 minute song, and that is very...

Re: Smells like indie spirit

even more annoying than endless subgenres is the band/artist who says "my music defies categorization" and then when you hear it, it totally doesn't. There was an epidemic of this during the grunge boom in Seattle. In interviews, bands would always say, "we're not grunge, we're doing something diff...

Re: CDR audio format compatibility question

thanks guys in this case there is no "master disk" just the files on my drive.... is this going to mean I'm not RedBook compliant? and are we sure that a place like mixonic.com puts out CDRs? I haven't used Toast before, but I'm pretty sure it produces redbook compliant CDs from files on your drive...

come on. i just spoke with Colleen at PPA. Everything is still a go. I didn't speak to Garth directly, but they answered the phone PPA and she called me back after talking to Garth. This is ridiculous. OMG. This proves it. Garth has been abducted and this Colleen person is taking everyone's money.
