Re: Low-pass filters

Rodgre those electrix don't look too bad. and there's plenty on ebay for about $70. btw , is "the curtain society" the same as the old Bedazzled band? anicorettenightmare@hotmail.com For $70, they're a steal. I bought the Filter Queens for $49 when GC was blowing them out, and the Filter Factory fo...

Re: Low-pass filters

look for a couple of used Electrix Filter Queens. A good parametric is the best way to go, but if you just need a good sounding LPF, the Filter Queen and the Filter Factory are quite nice. I also like the moogerfooger LPF as well. I use any one of these three to add some "boom" to kick drum tracks s...

Re: What is your favorite $500 or less Microphone??

Stapes Omnis ( www.stapesaudio.com ) These mics are fantastic on everything. They're my first choice for drum overheads. I love them as "backup vocal" mics, to get the BVs to sound a little "behind" the lead vocal (I use omni mics for that effect a lot.) They sound awesome on guitar amps. Put them ...

Re: tc electronics finalizer plus

I've used one since they came out back in the late 90s. I like the box, but over the years, I've learned that the best way to use it is to not use it much. It has decent A/D converters to get you to your DAT or DAW. There is a parametric EQ, multiband compressor, limiter and a few other goodies. It'...

There's also Wes Dooley out in CA. I've heard great things about both him and Steve Sank.

Re: rhodes and hum

Just checking....when you put the foil in the case, did you connect the foil to ground too?

It probably won't make a difference, but it's worth a shot....

Re: Stax-era vocal distortion

Z-Vex makes a pedal called the Super Hard-On. It's job is to emulate the distortion on 60's era boards. Kind or like when Jagger would yell into the mic and you hear it break up a little for a second. Might be worth checking out. Well it isn't really a distortion emulator or anything like that. It'...

Re: Bass Distortion???

Been seeing this thread a lot lately here. THat's cool. For overdrive sounds: Fulltone Bassdrive Analogman modded Tube Screamer Tech 21 Bass Sansamp Ampeg SVP preamp other tube preamps (I've even used the PAiA Tubehead with good results) The Fulltone Bassdrive is pretty good. It's kind of a modifie...

Re: line level through guitar effects

Either it's a power supply issue with the DD-5 or else there was some damage done by running such a hot signal into where the input preamp/converter circuit must have some kind of thermal failure... Use it until it heats up and goes kaput.

I'm not sure what to tell you about that.

Re: line level through guitar effects

Are you saying the DD-5 doesn't work correctly? Usually, you aren't going to harm the electronics in a pedal by putting too hot a signal into them, you're just going to clip the hell out of it. Then again, the DD-5 is a digital pedal and could possibly have an input section that's more sensitive tha...

Re: Damn loud hi-hats, and that washy cymbol effect.

My first question is: How does it sound in the room? I always find that when I'm tracking a band and the cymbal balance sounds weird, I walk into the live room and sort of cover my ears a little and see what the balance is like in the room. I try to get the mics to pick up what the drums really soun...

Re: New P/T Tremelo Trick

Hey Corin! Yeah, I read in Guitar Player in 1990 (Johnny Marr on the cover) about how that track was made, and while it does sound AC30ish to me as well, there was no mention of Vox... it was either Twins or Super Reverbs. I'll have to dig up that issue, and I'm dumbfounded that you don't own that i...

Re: build spring reverb schematics/plans- wanted

I also have a stereo MicMix MasterRoom reverb and it's a fun box. I think mine sounds like a cheap digital recerb at times (think old Alesis XTc), but it's still a fun box. I prefer the old Furman RV-1 to the MasterRoom though. I also have a cool Orban unit that rocks too. Look into that Paia kit if...

Re: SM 81s on electric guitar

I'm a big fan of SDCs on guitar amps. I like the AudioTechnica ATM33a as well. I find that they're not tinny, but pretty big and in-your-face sounding. My typical amp micing technique, since seeing another engineer doing it a few years back (thanks Chris!) is to use three different mics on one speak...
