Digikey or Mouser for mail order stuff - you can go to mouser.com or digikey.com and order a free catalog or browse PDF-style.... they are immense catalogs so the real deal is the way to go. you could just pop down to the local Radio Shack and get the stuff you need but you'll pay a bit more for a b...

I've wondered about that. I've been horrified at how bad many DJ mixers sound in the past (when spinning records, not anything "turntablist"), but the guy I'd be doing this with is pretty discerning, and he's into this mixer. I was thinking of borrowing an EHX LPB-2ube to warm things up a little, b...

he's using a supposedly high-quality Vestax mixer that's a bit of an oxymoron there you got that right..."supposedly" is the correct modifier to put in front of "high quality" when talking about many high priced DJ mixers. i am absolutely mystified how the premium models command such a high price w...

be careful how much signal you put through that amp, the horn driver is probably an old phenolic Jensen and they are typically about 10 watts - too much and the driver will flail. not that it's the end of the world, but it'll be tough finding another original, and tougher still finding a replacement...

you should be able to come right out of the DJ mixer into the RNC - i really don't think you'll want to compress very much, maybe just set it so you've got a dB or two of gain reduction. let your friend use his EQ, no need for you to. you've got the right idea though, the most minimal path to tape i...

envelope filtering drum fuckery has been standard operating procedure in a lot of techno for many years..... used to love to run drums through the external input of a Yamaha CS-15 synth - two mulitimode resonant filters with LFO and 2 separate ADSR's :D Sherman Filterbank is also a great mangling to...

i thought the Cold Heat thing was kind of bogus to begin with, since the basic idea of soldering is to heat the area you are soldering, THEN apply solder to the heated area and NOT to the soldering iron itself.

i guess it's great for making cold solder joints though...

I'm no tech by no means.. ..but I think this stuff was designed to be used in a " constraint" layer type installation. ( sandwiched between to layers, etc.) Just my .1- 1/2 cents!.. :D yeah, limp mass barrier material like that really works best in a wall or ceiling......does wonders for isol...

The above suggestions are all worthy, but as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about bass tones, let me throw my 2 cents in. The problem with a lot of contemporary bass tracks is that there's not enough bass. So many bass players go for more of a full- range sound these days. i suppose it's...

Re: Yep.... We'll see

Yeah, I physically got the SCSI HD mounted in an empty bay today. Now I just need to find an appropriate power and internal SCSI cable to connect it. From there, we'll see if it formats. The SCSI card in the S3000 has an internal ribbon... and there's a spare power outlet on the powersupply board.....

having said all that. i was in a band with a guy that had an emu esi-4000 turbo. if i were to buy another sampler for about $300 it would be the first thing i would look at. the O.S. might not be the best but it is a great setup for the price. the filters alone are worth that price. you can find th...

You know, I can understand people complaining about software replacing effects units, compressors, consoles, tape machines, analog synths, etc. But samplers are one area where software really does have the advantage. I've not used that particular Akai unit, so I can't speak to the quality of its DA...

you can put an ATAPI-stylee ZIP drive in the XL, since it does not need a boot up disk like the older 2000 - or if you can find one, even a ATAPI compact flash or similar smart media drive (had a buddy that did this). some XL's came with the ZIP drive as standard. the MPC2000 XL cannot write to a CD...
