i borrowed one from a friend and have only used it on one mix. that being said, i found it a little more transparent than the SSL 384; not quite as gritty.

some really loud signals, and their micro-transients, can clip the the opamps on the input stage in lower-end transformerless designs. it sucks, you just have to pad it, even though the tone changes for the worse. still beats clipping. V4 . +1. the vt-22 is the combo version of the V4. it is a little jazzier sounding than a twin, the overall tone sounds more "bold" to me. it's rated at 100W RMS but sounds more like 120W and clean all the way up. Everett Hull, the designer, was an accordian player and hated rock n roll and distort...

if you get the mod and a MicroClock, i'd recommend buying 3ft of the Evidence Audio Monorail cable and have BLA terminate the ends to BNC.

that combo will kick some serious butt.

never heard a Duet, so i can't comment on that one.
