If you think about multi-tracking with one mic, didn't Paul McCartney do "Ram" with one mic? About 90 percent of my record was done with one mic. It turned out better than I anticipated: www.cataldomusic.com/weddingcake.mp3 www.cataldomusic.com/lipsanddollars.mp3 www.cataldomusic.com/parts.mp3 -Eric

Angie wrote:I just read a review of a new biography on Sam Cooke. It supposedly focuses more on recording session details than his personal life. Though no book could eliminate that.

Do you remember the name of the book? Link perhaps?

If they're still doing R&D and working out the kinks I would imagine it will be a while.

Someone please remind me why Guitar Center even exists? To sell eleven year olds Squier Strats and 20 watt Crate amps. This EH design sounds really great, but I'd want A.)More gain B.)Internal Power Supply (Most likely in a rack mounted case) Then again, you can't complain too much for the price. -...

Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke-How the fuck?

Let me preface this question by saying that we're dealing with 2 of the most talented singers of the past century, and that their outgoing answering machine messages would be as compelling as most things made today. Taking that into consideration, how the fuck did they get those vocal sounds? I'm re...

That old Chris Walla piece can be found in the old prosoundweb Tapeop archives: http://www.prosoundweb.com/recording/tapeop/death/death.shtml As I recall this was back in the 1/2inch 8 track/crappy allen and heath mixer phase. Here's his personal website if you're interested: www.hallofjusticerecord...

What on earth could you need FIFTEEN U-47s for? Pretty nuts. safer than the stock market in some cases... dave You beat me to it. I was gonna say: For your grandchildrens retirement. That's why I have fifteen DAT recorders. Bringing the tapeoppers of 2050 that vintage 16 bit sound. ...perhaps Neuma...

Go here: http://www.blackbirdstudio.com/ This has to be one of the sickest gear collections of all time. And I know that it's not all listed either. There's more. If you were to take everyone on this board and add up all the gear, it wouldn't even come close to the stuff Jon has. He is the world's ...

Its not that I heard it has bad DA, I just heard it was not up to the level as the AD. I don't know why that would be and it could just be misinformation. Doing some research online it says that the Onyx 400F uses AKM converters on both the AD and DA so there probably is little difference in their ...

Re: Mackie Onyx 400F, anyone Got one? Used one? Whatcha thin

I am looking into a new firewire based interface and this Mackie Onyx 400F looks pretty promising. Anyone on here used one? I heard it had great AD but not as great DA. It looks like a bargain with the converters, DSP mixer, pres, and software bundle. How is that software by the way? Any Traktion u...

I think that a lot of you miss the point of Walter Sears essay. I don't think he was comparing the importance of brain surgery to recording, that would be foolish and Mr. Sear is not a foolish man. I think he was just trying to make a point and used what may be an outrageous topic to do it. There a...

Re: 300

They are superb! I've got 2, and they always end up on something. I got them 5 years ago on ebay for $500 fer th' pair... Check out the shure 330 as well (or the 333 or the sm33). Hypercardioid ribbons. I've had a little more success with these on vocals. The hypercardioids have an interesting dip ...

Yeah, I found that site too. Lots of great info, but just wanted to hear a real person tell me to pull the trigger. Should be a fun, cheap, vintage mic that will temporarily satiate my desire for a ribbon. I've decided to pitch it to myself that I'm really SAVING 700 dollars compared to a Royer! SWE...
