I like the e602 too, the first version. My current band has been tracking in our rehearsal room for the past few months off and on and everyone loved the Beta52 that the drummer provided.... except I hated it. It sounded boomy and indistinct. For me, it's the e602 on kick (lots of beater) or a d112 ...

I have a recent make Bluebird (assembled in China). I read a lot about how people dislike it's presence peak but I like the sound overall. It has more top & less mid-forward push than my Baby Bottle. You can't go wrong at that price.

No offense to anyone, and I always say use what ya got, but when I think of what I like about tape it ain't 4-track cassette or a 388 machine. Damn man, that's cold. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(        Nope. He's absolutely correct.

I have a pair of stock Apex 205 ribbon mics that I recently tried as overheads on my loud stoner-rock band drummer's kit; with my Presonus Digimax LT (54db max mic pre gain) the drums sounded small and lifeless, lacking dynamics. I know something's wrong when stock Digi 002R mic pre's sounded bette...

If you go to pricewatch.com and input "ViPower" in the search function, you will get no results. Apparently some big company bought ViPower and somehow all of the cheap $8 PATA caddies have disappeared from the U.S.. MagicSound's SATA HD24 caddies are not available now, due to the caddy shortage. Cl...

I did a google search for 2" tape prices and found a gearslutz thread where people referred to the price increases, around August-September of 2006: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/mastering-forum/82650-analog-tape-prices.html The average prices even for NOS Quantegy 2" tape (sold after the shutdown)...

I have a pair of KSM27's. They are way different from the typical cheap chinese-mfg large condenser mic; smooth, very even treble, balanced. Not a lot of extreme peaks in the low or top end, neutral. Very unforgiving of bad signals like cheap drum cymbals; they record what they hear very well and ac...

The DBX was off. I don't like how it sounds, and since we were recording loud instruments, hiss wasn't a problem at all. I'm going to have to rethink my using the 388 with the DBX on. The DBX just takes the life out of the sound on the 388. Your EP sounds great, there's hiss but way more analog coo...

One question; did you record on the 388 with the DBX on or off?

I agree. Saw the CT5 demo at their booth @ potluck conference in Tucson last month. Massey plugs are great.

Ive often wondered about the behringer and other low end compressors. Is it worth having these kinds of things in the signal chain? Say I was tracking a vocal, are cheap compressors going to help me? Or is it better to just keep my singal chain as "clean" or as "good" as it can be and compress in t...

Behringer Composer Pro-XL MDX2600? It has both regular dbx-type compression & a peak limiter. Can't say how it sounds or works, but it has the features you were looking for, and is probably super cheap on the used market.

New Massey CT5 plugin release & older free plugins

Massey Plugins has released CT5, the update of their CT4 plugin compressor for ProTools, version 7 and up. New added features, still reasonable price. The upgrade to CT5 for existing CT4 purchasers is $3.00 USD; that is amazing in itself! Also, the free plugins that used to be on smassey.com are ava...
