Re: Touch Automation

I use it all the time to automate plugin parameters in real time. Delays, tremolo... stuff like that. Feels a little more like I'm using my guitar pedals. Sometimes I'll use it on the faders, but that's less often.

Re: Is anyone not using Valhalla Supermassive?

It's cool. I've been using it a lot for synth stuff.

The FeqEcho is another free one that I like even more. Been getting a lot of use.

Re: recreating demoes and "demo-itis"

This is exactly what I was thinking. There is often a moment, or several moments of creative breakthrough in the demo process. There is a rush of endorphins where everyone involved goes 'Oooooh, this is our SONG! It goes like this and it's actually AWESOME.' There is no recreating that feeling, and...

Re: recreating demoes and "demo-itis"

Why is it always implied that a demo is inherently flawed, in terms of a performance? Maybe it's not imperfections that the band is attached to, maybe it's legitimately the best the song has ever sounded. I actually avoid demo-ing stuff altogether. I don't see much point in it honestly. We rehearse ...

Re: Plugins that deliberately add noise

I like the "tape hiss" on the UAD ATR-102. I’ve found that a touch of that hiss can help mask some mic self-noise that might show up only when the tracks using that mic are playing. Helps level out what might otherwise be an obvious appearance of noise, however low in the mix it might be. There's s...

On individual tracks though? Fuck no.

Re: 44 or 48 or 96?

44.1 or 48. doesn't really matter to me.

24-bit always.

If I had more CPU strength, I'd probably try 88.2, but it's a headache at this point.

Re: How many guitar amps?

I've been pining for a Pro Jr. for a long time now. I used to have regular access to one, and with all honesty, it's the only Fender amp I've ever loved. Other people can get Princetons, etc. to sound great, but not me. That Pro Jr. though. I think it's the EL84's. I see now there are II, III & IV v...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

A Snapmaker 3 in 1 3D printer. No, not an audio device per se , but useful to prototype some hardware ideas I have had swimming around my head for a few years. Eventually, I'll use some of you as guinea pigs. :alien: Nice! We have 2 3D printers that I oversee at the library where I work. My crownin...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Tell me more about these! Have mixed a couple songs with them on the mixbuss now. They sound like a really exceptional bass/treble knob on a stereo. A little goes a long way, the shelves are super wide. I wouldn't describe the LF band as "more low end". It's more like "more balls". The air thing is...

Re: Gain Staging - Tracking/Mixing

Thanks for all the replies. The biggest issue I'm having is with a Lehle Sunday Driver. I'm using it with my guitar going into an Amp Sim, Helix Native. When the level is down all the way on the Lehle, I get clipping when strumming hard. When use the -20db pad on my UA Apollo (1st gen Silverface), ...

Re: Gain Staging - Tracking/Mixing

I was searching for a different thread on this topic from way back. It was on the forum that Terry Manning used to moderate. I did find this one though and it seems to have replaced the original.... https://repforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/topic,16878.0.html Worth a read for sure. I was made awar...

Re: Gain Staging - Tracking/Mixing

I've gone thru a decent amount of material on gain staging, but still have a few questions.. From my understanding, the level of each individual track should be -18dbFs. Does this mean that should be the recording level? The size of the waveform I get, when tracking at -18, is significantly smaller...

Re: How many guitar amps?

Traynor Custom Special Reverb head (often used for bass with a vintage 1x15 Traynor cab). ooh, I've got an old TR-1 that looks like this one -- https://reverb.com/item/18210903-1968-traynor-tr-1-tube-reverb-unit-black-tolex very springy! I love those. I've had chances at them several times and regr...
