You should read The Art of Mixing. Its a real great book and I think it might help get some ideas for you to start, since they real answers to many of your questions is "it depends on the situation". like how low hz to cut the cymbals? It depends on what all is going on, how you miked it, what kinds...

My money would say its the mixer. I recorded a friends band once on one of those bigger behringer consoles (the huge one with a billion channels and tape ins outs and 8 bus(it was thiere board not mine thank the lord!)). But long story short it had cross talk like no other, thats a pretty common fut...

Agreed with everything said. I dont think good song writers plan and draw out a frequency map they just do it from years of trail and error learning. A frequency map would be a great idea. If your a visual learner (like me) it might help to get your head around it. It might even help if you made one...

Yeay It is the original model, I did see BLA didnt work on those which is a shame. I know thiers some DIY mods on the net but I really cant find any specifics. Thanks for review of yours though, hopefully I can have similar results if I can mod mine, maybe not as good as BLA, but hopefully better.

a 602 does have a pretty nice bite. I just heard this mic at the studio im interning at and instantly loved its punch. Great for really quick metal type kick drums. I also like my kickball I just bought.

second the reaper option. I just buy pt mpowered 7.4 and wish I wouldnt have cuz now Im using reaper which ill buy once funds become available.
