Re: Problem balancing level of multiple monitors

Set the BM6a trim to "0" and then trim the D5 down to match? I'm sure there must be a reason why this wouldn't work/be a good idea....

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Welcome, MrBiggs The literature for the Fryette says, "a genuine, all-tube, one watt guitar amp, driving an internal reactive load and an analog speaker simulator.  The internal load is disabled when driving a speaker cabinet" Sounds like it has a power soak, which converts most of the power tube's ...

Re: connecting turntable to console

My Denon has a defeatable phono pre built in. Because they were available, I borrowed an Art and a Behringer for comparison. All three were fine. I'm currently using the phono input on a Hitachi receiver, which does have a better sound. It has selectable cartridge types, impedance, and possibly some...

Tascam M-1600
I've been reaching a similar conclusion about my Tascam m-512. I keep thinking I'll do something about it, but maybe it's just how I'm supposed to sound.

Re: how to strip really small wires

I like the kleins. I also have a pair of the adjustable v-notch style that I like for certain smaller stuff but they can be finicky to set up. Sometimes the easiest way for me is to bend the wire in a tight loop at the point I want to strip, nick the insulation with a utility blade, bend the opposit...

Re: Online Guitar Lessons

I've been working through the Mickey Baker book this year. There's a minimalist website that can accompany it, www.jazzandhotguitar.com Not exactly what you're after, perhaps, but it's the first book course I've actually enjoyed and felt like I got a lot from. Really nice combination of building mus...

Watching a compressor meter while tracking has helped me develop my touch on bass - lets me know when I'm digging in too much or not enough.

Re: dbx 160x acting strange

Just checked, my pair of 163x take a 5/64" allen wrench. I like the longer handled type wrenches, such as made by Stanley, as they provide more leverage.
My 166 (original, no letter suffix) shows full gain reduction unless the gate threshold is turned down. Just a thought.

Re: electrovoice 635A

Not too long ago I believe someone on here mentioned putting it on the floor on the snare side of the kick, sort of an alternative to the crotch thing. Tried it there a couple times and liked it. I use it a lot on my nylon acoustic, which is usually meant to stay tucked away inside the rhythm sectio...
