Re: Patchbay Question - Where to connect ground wire?

I suspect a ground loop issue. Sounds like the patchbay is probably intended to be used as the star ground point for all shields of all balanced signals it carries. A shield only has to be connected to ground at one point to do its job. Connecting at multiple points can introduce these problems. You...

Re: Michael Joly is getting out of the microphone business...

This sucks. I had just visited his site a couple weeks ago with the idea of having him upgrade my mk012 pair. Is there anyone else that does a comparable job? Probably not as he mentions the difficulty of find a successor. Perhaps I'll diy it. Fortunately I have a third one i can experiment on first...

The i-beam is likely structural, tying the walls together to counteract the weight of the roof trying to spread them apart.
the collar ties are already doing that.
True. If the thing's just propped up there then the collars are all that's needed.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Not new gear per se, but just installed a pair of Antiquity II in my j mascis squier jazzmaster this afternoon. I hated the stock bridge p/u from the get go but had gotten used to the neck one and thought it was passable. Holy crap was I wrong. Feel like I have a brand new guitar now.

Re: outputting masters at different level for cd vs streaming

also re: bandcamp, i've bought a fair number of records from bands there and the levels are all over the place. some stuff seems not even mastered. which is also kind of odd. Vinyl records, or records in the more generic sense? I have a few bands I specifically follow on bandcamp, and I get the imp...

Re: Unbalanced Polarity Flip

Had to think about that for a minute but makes sense. The physical rotation of the generator creates the delay in 3 phase. Center tapping a winding is just some electrical trickery with a single phase.

Also obtained a BBE Opto-Stomp (non-'stache) which is what I'd read it to be - a sweet opto-comp (my fave kind since I started with Meeks).
I've got the 'stache version. Does yours have that annoying clicky thing in the attack?

Re: Unbalanced Polarity Flip

I think what Beard of Bees is saying is that a balanced signal has two opposite polarity phases with respect to ground, while an unbalanced signal only has one phase with respect to ground. If you tie your single phase and ground to a transformer primary, the secondary can have a simple dpdt polarit...

Nice to read back thru this, feel like I know a little more this time around. Hopefully it's not too off topic, as he's been mentioned, but can anyone steer me to some good Pharoah Sanders? Discovered his and Coltrane's "Live in Seattle" and "Om" last fall. The guy at the record store was reluctant ...

Re: Beyerdynamic m260

M260s exist with low end extension... and versions (often ending in "..80") with a lowcut in the output transformer so it can't be modded to get rid of the lowcut in case it has one. Make sure which one you get. The original Beyer ribbons are corrugated in a combination of length-wise and RCA-style...

Re: Flood Recovery

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Assuming the electronics don't have something like an old transformer full of paper between the windings, soaking and washing with generous amounts of rubbing alcohol and distilled water and then allowing to thoroughly dry might help. If the bass drum had a wrap, you prob...

Beyerdynamic m260

Someone local has a pair of m260s for $600. I know some of the history of these particular mics as they were used as spaced pair o/h on my first session in a "real studio."
Talk me out of this. Or don't.
