Re: how would you record a six piece doo wop group?
Another approach, if you have say 16-32 tracks available to record, would be to over mic everything utilizing 2-4 scenarios for miking at the same time and then listen back to what you recorded and figure it out from there. Since they "fill the room naturally and balanced", I would set them up the w...

Re: how would you record a six piece doo wop group?
Maybe 2 figure-8 mics at 90 degrees, you know like this + and have 2 vocalists facing 2 vocalists and have the acoustic guitar and bass face each other...this is contingent on recording live, of course. DI the bass (or amp with low volume) and mic the acoustic (or DI if ya want).

Re: Too much equipment. Trim down?
I've always had good experiences selling stuff to Guitar Center. In spite of all the bad press they get, they buy equipment for reasonable prices. I have some stuff I'll be offing to the battered women shelter and other stuff may go to GC. I'm not a GC fanboy by any stretch, but the experiences I've...

Re: Too much equipment. Trim down?
I like to give my excess gear to the local battered women house that has a thrift store to raise funds to sustain itself. Whenever I go back to the store, none of my sh!t is ever still there. Also, I just saw this smilie that me me chuckle...

Re: Servicing AT mics
I once had "emergency surgery" on one of their stereo mics. It fell off my vehicle and smashed onto the blacktop road in the upper peninsula of Michigan. When I discovered it was missing, we retraced our route and found it (no pun intended) at the crossroads. It took a header and half of the grill w...

I was in the CAD (Conneaut Audio Device) factory in Conneaut, Ohio years ago and saw one of their mixing consoles in-house. They have since moved their offices closer to Cleveland. As I recall, their senior service technician was still working with them and I was thinking that you might be able to s...

In all fairness, the placement of a mic in a corner and its final result (the recording) is also dependent upon spacing, the distance the mic & source are from the corner. It is better to try it than just fluff it off as something that won't work and assume there will be bass build up. Personally, I...

Sounds like proximity effect/room sound...have you tried an omnidirectional microphone yet? Can you play and have someone slowly move a directional mic away from the guitar (wear headphones to discern what effect this has on the "heft" of your sound)? What are the dimensions of the room height/width...
