I can definitely tell you that the Senn HD280s travel better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50...I have both and do many remote recordings.

Sennheiser HD280 (I think it's 280?)...travel well. The ears fold 90 degrees and sit in my laptop case and do remote gigs. I actually have the new(ish)Audio Technica headphones, but have been using the Sennheisers because they travel well...they are on my head in my avatar.

I did this and don't have laptop sound, but use either Presonus Firebox -or- Firestudio/Digimax FS with my retro fitted Sony Vaio...it is rock solid, purrs like a kitten and is a total ...

You may be able to ground the electronics to the body of the mic...I recently sent my Avalon U5 back to them for this mod because it was picking up our FM station (92.9)...it's not AM-only.

Yes, it will need a balanced signal path. I ran into problems feeding an unbalanced input from Grace 101's (older model). You can read about this in their manual online, I suppose.

One sure fire way to get a decent playing/sounding acoustic guitar is to seek a guitar set-up technician at a music store and ask their advice about which guitar to get and have them do a preliminary set-up on the instrument. This is a sure fire way to get the optimum playability and intonation of y...

Keep the Firestudio and work on mic placement and getting good levels going into the device. There's no need to upgrade based on the limited info you've posted...you're not exactly bitching about anything. If you want to add a mixing board, get one that has direct outs on each channel.
