Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

A SansAmp Bass Driver. I've only wanted one for over 20 years! I scoffed at them for so long. Then on my last pre-covid lockdown project, we were tracking bass direct with the intention of re-amping later on... I split the signal, one dry DI, one SansAmp (just so it wouldn't sound so boring to the ...

That Avantone CLA-100, one rack space, is looking NICE, but $500.

Re: Replace my monitoring amp with an old Crown?

Funny this thread shows up. I've been using a Crown COM-TECH 410 since 2003 along with KRK 7000's from the 90's. Recently, the right channel has been lower than the left. I'm still working on tracing it down, but i'm pretty sure it's the amp that's doing this and nothing upstream. I know nothing abo...

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear and enlightenment, man

fretless - i had one for a long time, it's a very cool sound but a one trick pony. if you have a ton of money and want the whole arsenal (Fender J, Fender P, Hollowbody, Fretless, Something w/ Humbuckers, Upright) for your studio to cover every tone just in case, it's a great idea. but unless you'r...

Re: pan your drums out of the center

The true reason I do it is that it helps me retain focus on the mix. If I have the drums audience, it distracts ME. Therefore I'm not doing me best on listening to the WHOLE MIX because I'm distracted by the hats on the right side. I owe it to the song and my clients to not let something so simple ...

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad

I've also had one of these for the past ten years and will never get rid of it. It's not "API" but great sounding clean pres with a lot of headroom made by a really wonderful human. https://reverb.com/item/31514120-shinybox-si4-microphone-preamp-4-channel-preamp Between this, the Warm WA412, two BUR...

Also, how much longer would you have to wait to do this https://reverb.com/p/api-3124-plus-4-channel-mic-preamp?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4MLhxOOb6QIVyEXVCh00zgHFEAQYAiABEgIia_D_BwE&hfid=750315&merchant_id=183439611&utm_campaign=6481936488&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google Because if another $1k means waiti...

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

You and I have similar Pro Tools timelines, starting with the dig 001 back in 2001 or so and moving up to a TDM rig. I still have both my Digi 001 and TDM system with my Mac G4 10.3.9! None of that shit sells for anything so I'm just hanging onto as a backup/nostalgia. You never know when it will c...

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

I used Pro Tools for 15 years. I first had a Digi 001 on PT 6.4. I then upgraded to a TDM system with 3 24/888's that I bought off eBay for pretty cheap for Pro Tools prices 10 years ago. It was still PT 6.4 but it was TDM now. The zero latency monitoring was pretty cool, even with plugins; and tha...

Re: alesis wedge power supply problem?

Mine has the exact same problem. I was actually looking at getting a second/backup yesterday but remembered that there's way more important things to spend $100 on right now. There's one on Reverb that looks MINT if you're interested.

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Build diary here - https://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=89354 Hey, thanks! Always inspiring to see builds here done by people who don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on a build unlike those "other" websites. I paid a structural engineer to draw me up some plans so I coul...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Mine is similar but probably less sound proofed. It’s a big one car garage. Inside it’s a 12x20-something space. The building is cinderblock and I framed with 2x4. This is my second garage build, and after working hard to sound proof the first with limited success I made no heroic efforts this time...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Mine is 19x27 so not too much different in size. I have "superchunks" in all 4 corners and then other absorption in strategic places. The construction is an external brick veneer and 2x6 frame with 2 layers of sheetrock inside (overlapping seams, each caulked/sealed separately). I never thought I c...
