Re: scully 280 and 280b

I found a local pickup only Scully 280b 1/4" 2 track around where I live. I was looking for the first silverface one and happened across this. It still works and for 100 bucks I cant see a reason not to get it. People have said that you can mod it to make it more like the 280 with some sort of "ray...

Re: dub bass?

Technique. I get this sound live all the time. Confuses the shit out of a soundguy ("Wha?"). It's ALL about where you play. I use either fingers or my thumb (plucking, not slapping), right at the end of the fretboard or even over the fretboard. I can go from an angry grind to shaking drinks off the ...

FS: Soundcraft 200b parts (modules, chassis, etc.) - UPDATE

All individual rails work perfectly. $25 each plus a minimal shipping cost; discounts if you buy multiples. 12 sold so far; 15 left Master section - has a cold solder joint in the monitor that I never got around to fixing. Cuts out intermittently, but comes back if you twist the master knob around a...

The Multivox tape echoes are the poor man's Space Echo, only better in some respects.

Re: Best snare hit ever?

The correct answer is also the correct answer in the "Greatest Rock 'n 'Roll Single" thread: The Kinks "You Really Got Me".

Or was it "All Day And All Of The Night"?

Either way: I drive a little faster after the snare drops than I was before.

Re: SVT replacement tubes

Just out of curiosity... how do you know for sure that you need new tubes? Is something distorting? Then it's probably the preamp tubes. Is the tone kind of anemic, and lacking in low end? Power tubes. You don't necessarily need to replace all at the same time; they don't burn out at the same rates....

Are you absolutely sure?

A three-way switch is a three-way switch is a three-way switch. Any one should do.

This is the correct answer. If it isn't, it should be. When the snare drops on "You Really Got Me"... ye gods.

Re: Albums you missed the boat on

Steve Miller. No, I'm not kidding. Every time I hear him on the radio, I turn it up and involuntarily drive faster. The production is GREAT on those records, and it's FUN. "Keep On Rockin' Me Baby", indeed. Somehow my younger, pot-crazy brother figured this out thirteen years before I did. I did not...

Re: New U2 song - Vertigo

I like it.

Best bass sound(s) Clayton's had since Achtung Baby. The Edge always has cool guitar sounds, so that's a push.

Sounds kinda demo-y. In a good way.

Re: I wanna go mobile (iBook/002 or similar). Thoughts?

Interesting.

The DSP version would be mainly if I wanted to mix in the box, right? Or could it prove useful on the way in, to limit peaks and such?

If Dave Matthews' guy uses it, it must be good...

Re: I just built one of those bass speaker mics

All you need is a resistor in series to pad it. Go to Radio Shack and buy a bunch of different ones; experiment with the values until you get what you want. Incidentally, I'm in KC too... I'd love to take a look at this thing. I tried running a bass cab to a DI once and never got anything out of it.

Build the Winer traps. Seriously. You'll be amazed.

Also, pull your mix position away from that back wall. Use traps back there too.

That has nothing to do with the brand of bass and everything to do with the fact that the guy is not Donald Dunn.
