He means "music" recording, obviously, like songs or concerts or video soundtracks. That's what we real engineers do. Everything else is just... how to say it... dilettantish scenester-ism!

You may see it show up in one of those commercials yet... I guess that's up to Joni Mitchelll...?

It talks about "plug-in power" on the 1/8" jack... there must be stereo mics made precisely for this application... maybe a dual ribbon, he asks hopefully....?
