Re: soldering tips for y'all

my guru alan durham showed me that 1/4"dabbin' trick a few years ago in exchange for a girl's number. now i am an expert solderer and a full-time pimp! ok, maybe i'm not an expert solderer. i also mimicked him by drilling 1/4" holes in and gluing clothespins to various small chunks of 2x4 and 4x4 wo...

Re: Sources on building gear

generalguitargadgets.com has schematics as well as parts layout diagrams and other helpful info for beginners (like me). also, the "group diy" site (don't have the url on me, but there's a link on gyraf's page, i think) is a must-see. it's amazing how nice all these diy gurus are to share their info...

Re: source for soundcraft 600 parts?

thanks for the part #, byron, as well as the clicking insight. I'm definitely several grades behind you in the electronics department. Does your board have similar crosstalk? (how to recreate this: select 2 track A, and turn the oscillator on. Even with the oscillator volume all the way down, I can ...

Re: soundcraft 600

oh, yeah, byron, have you seen eddie ciletti's Soundcraft 200 grounding mod? That may help your crosstalk problem, and it doesn't seem too hard. i saw a caveat on rec.audio.pro that while it is compatible with the 600, it's a little harder b/c the ribbon cable is arranged differently. let's find out...

Re: Soundcraft 600 discussion

Yeah, I should replace the bulbs in mine with bulbs. . . i was thinking about sending my master module to audio upgrades when I go on tour in the fall. hey, byron, would you mind tellin' me what the mouser part # is for the switches? they're the "E-switches", right? are they any quieter than the pre...

Re: Most strange, overthetop, kinky studio techniques known2

diymike, i'll have to try to email you a song i did a few years ago. it's a bluegrassy number with my roommate's mac as the singer. i recorded the simpletext words first, and then tuned up so i could play in g# (the note that "zarvox" speaks in), and then try to play along with the rhythm of the wor...

Re: Most strange, overthetop, kinky studio techniques known2

i haven't tried this yet, but keep threatening bands with it. it probably sounds like complete ass but would be fun to try: - sending a vocal track through a talk box or vocoder and apply different lyrics. or - recording a vocal track with just aaahs and adding the lyrics later via talk-box or vocod...

source for soundcraft 600 parts?

I'd like to pick up some extra channels for my Soundcraft 600, as well as some fader knobs. Anyone know of a good source for stuff like this? There used to be a place in Nashville but they seem to have gone out of business. thanks!

Re: bowed/singing saw mic tips?

According to Jeff Johnston, a friend who plays saw a lot in Austin, the standard way is to stick a mic between the floor and the saw facing up at the saw, or on the opposite side (above) which is worse only because the stand might be in the way of the bowing arm. the point to this method is just to ...
