Thanks for the heads up on Dazian! I'll give them a holler tomorrow and see about getting some samples. Until then, I think burlap and spray on retardant sound like a good bet. Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll post again as things develop.

I see your point. I'm not under the impression that my acoustic treatments are the only fire-safety issue in the place, and I don't think it's necessary to find a 100% fireproof fabric. However, I do think there is a big safety difference between fabric that is somewhat reluctant to ignite (perhaps ...

Fire-resistant fabric to cover acoustic panels?

Hi all, I'm about to build a bunch of absorbers and bass traps with Owens-Corning 703, and am trying to decide what kind of fabric to cover them with. I've been using burlap, but I'm a little worried about its eagerness to burn, should a fire break out. Does anyone out there know of a more fire-safe...

+1 for Stillwell. PSP Audioware is really good too. My favorites from them are Vintage Warmer and Mixpressor. Valhalla DSP makes a great affordable reverb called ValhallaRoom, and last but not least, Genuine Soundware makes a great spring reverb emulation called Type 4 (very convincing, tons of flav...

Are you recording with a DAW, or tape? If the former, I'd lean toward spring reverb. I have a few nice to decent digital reverbs, but even before I started DAW-ing, I almost always reached for my cheapo 80's Tascam spring reverb. These days, a hardware digital reverb has to be pretty dang fancy to b...

Having skimmed the Bunker 2.0 build thread, that looks like a great way for me to go about mitigating the one-sided deadness issue.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Snarl.

That's basically what I'm imagining. I'll look at some of the bunker-related posts and see how the info there applies to what I'm doing. Thanks, Snarl!

"Un-deadening" strategies?

Last year I removed some large (~8' square), old, deteriorating foam panels that were in my cutting room when I bought the place and replaced them with 4" deep 703 and burlap. As I have continued to slowly redo the place, I now realize that I need to more evenly distribute absorption and diffusion a...

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I'll check it out with my neighbor and report back. I know he has experience with reconing EVs in particular, so maybe I'll buy a kit and start with that, then dive into the custom parts once my feet are wet.

do you have a multimeter? if the organ is working, (i think) you could turn it on and measure the voltage across the red and black wire terminals. It seems you're pretty confident that the red/black pair of wires is for power? I wonder how the audio gets out of the drum machine. Another thing that w...
