Re: Help me design my rooms
Looks good. You don't really need to do anything except for noise leaking outside, depending on who it might bother. Any unwanted reflections can be fixed with blanket or curtain.

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
I do Ringo style, but sometimes put a mic next to my head to pick up whole kit including bass drum.

Heavy eq and compression. And also ..what lots of us do is use several sources layered to make one snare, one kick etc.

Recording-wise, can't think of anything ..but did cause a mic to fall 12 ft off a boom and get wrecked.

Re: Handheld that sounds like like an LDC
Usually the large mic is several inches from singer's mouth, while hand held is close. Either way, KMS 105 or VX10 should do. Or 58, depending.

Demos have stuff that finished products lack. And vice versa.

Re: How many guitar amps?
I can seriously say that "no more than one amp" is ever needed. In fact, "no amp" is needed. Found this out when needing to record quietly, and used a fuzz pedal. Even today when listening back ..the pedal sounds like an amp. Fools me every time.

Re: Two parter: Getting mic bleed to work for you, and the phase differences between nudging tracks and moving mics.
To a certain extent nudging can do a similar thing, but there's so many variables with mics and placement. That said, I think lots of records from 1970s onward are full of multi-mic phase cancelations, which became part of the sound ..The sound of a wall of skinny sounding tracks.

I'd definitely look into Blue Microphones.
