Re: Overdrive pedals educate me

I'm somewhat pedal ignorant. I bought a Danelecro distortion at the pawn shop, and have a couple of phasers and that's it. I was cutting some accent rhythm guitar last week using my Vox AC15. To get it to break up with an ASAT special I had it CRANKED. I had it in iso because it would have killed t...

Re: Does anyone mic the hat and if so why?

Obviously people do. And I'm not very experienced at recording drums, so I'll say that up front. But I have always gotten enough hat via the overheads, and found it hard to keep the snare from bleeding into the hat mic, so I stopped mic-ing the hat. Any similar/different experiences or advice? I am...

How can I make it sound less like me singing along with myself using only analogue techniques?
Yep, done this many times. Just mimic various singers on the different tracks . . most of us singers have a few favorites that we can mimic. And it's fun too.

Re: Cymbals Eat Snare

Also you can throw a 57 on the snare and crank it up in the mix. And stick several pieces of tape on the cymbals.

Re: Complete list of Cassette Multi-Track Recorders and Portastudios

i believe the last model made was the tascam 414mkIII. they were still being sold in the Aughts. My guess is that the Tascam MF-P01 was the last one released; it was announced in January 2002. The date on the service manual for the 424mkIII was May 1999. yes but they were still selling 414 and 424 ...

Re: Setup advice for Tascam M35 and 38 tape machine?

Hook-up lines from recorders outputs to the board ...and use mic, line, tape-in select switch to control signal flows. The manuals should explain it, I'd study them thoroughly.

Re: Cymbals Eat Snare

Yep, drummer technique. And really good drummers usually have good sounding kits.

Another way is to leave cymbals out. Beatles sometimes overdubbed cymbals, and ABBA never had a crash. Or possibly ever a ride either, lol.

That's a huge list! ...never knew most existed. I recently been mixing stuff on X24 ..no sends, no eq, which suits me fine.

Interview Request: Roy Thomas Baker . .

Interview based on gear/technique would be cool. Some of RTBs past engineers are gone: RIP Geoff Workman, George Tutko, Mike Stone to name a few who were there when Queen and Cars did their thing. Also, any tidbits on that 40 track Stephens would be nice.
