Very cool - thanks a lot.
if these solutions prove to be out of the price-range of the small-ish company i work for, i welcome other suggestions, elaborating on my initial ideas, as well.
regards.

opinions on archiving loads of data
the company i work for is currently archiving each project in its own cardboard box, which contains raw session tracks, EDL's, mixdowns, images, etc. , so a typical project will be a 5 disk set with anywhere from 5GB to 50GB of material to be archived. we currently burn it all to DVD, and want to re...

alp 5's
my boss ordered me a pair of these new events - they're (alp 5) OK, have a cheap sounding high end and claim to deliver down to 50hz, but i don't believe it. 279.00 for a powered pair. many cheap monitors have unacceptable high levels of self noise, i've found.

57 & nt1000 snuggled, 5" from center cone of modded classic 30 or valve junior. Avantone CR-14 dual ribbon mic 2-3 feet back. Aphex 107. Best in a live room. I then trash either the ribbon track or the close mic'd track because of phase issues. But then, sometimes i get lucky. Otherwise, re-amping a...

session help
hi folks - i'm proficient at recording myself, laying drums to a click, adding bass, then guitars, etc...but a glaring hole in my knowledge is the ability to record other people, particularly live. So i have agreed to record an acoustic trio, 3 guitars, 3 vox, live. As humbling as it is, i'm not sur...

EHX NYC
i have a mid-70's original, and given that they're not exorbidantly(sp?) priced ($150-ish) you might as well get a clean old one, if that's a sound you really dig.
nothin' like it in front of a low watt tube amp...milkshake tone.

other alternatives for your peavey
man, it is such a default for the entire planet to go with JJ's as replacements in guitar amps. yes, they are fine tubes, but man, there are lots of other choices. EI golds sound great, EHX recent stuff is cool, i even dig some of the sovteks for their dark break-up characteristic... be different, t...

indeed
yep - i've been trying to convince myself for years that i didn't really like 57's - but keep using them when i'm honest about what i'm hearing, particularly on snare and guitar cabs (usually in conjunction w/ something else). you read about steve albini among others hating them - but dammit, what a...

that response was inevidible i guess - sorry to offend.
just say you've been gigging for 20 and it puts you in a different league - folks will more likely understand that you're an incredible player and everyone you have shared a stage with has wet themselves just being in your mere presence...

china
i guess the original poster's question will go unanswered. i dig my chinese 624's - certainly not scooped and are definitey detailed. perhaps a bit too flattering, but long sessions without fatigue are posible. i have to guess below 50hz but have become good at that by now. they reveal to me that my...

ok, ok
i did not see the kayagum post before my last post. the audition/aac plug-in might be the ticket. thanks for that. Still interested in hearing other options. If AAC does a better job w/ frequencies 16k and up, and there are zillions of i-pods out there playing these files, why the hell is this forma...
