Glyn Johns Method - Some Clarification

I've seen a lot of post about the Glyn Johns method. And I see a lot of conflicting info on the technique. My style is to use Glyn Johns (OVERHAEDS) - with spot mics on all the other drums: snare, kick and toms. But the "real" way?? I know there's a top, side and kick. But is there supposed to be a ...

I would stick with the SM57 on the bottom. When I use both top and bottom mics, I use a Sennheiser 441 on the top and SM57 on the bottom. But lately I've been using a more simple technique. I like to use "Glyn Johns" style overheads using AKG 414's. And then I'll throw my Sennheiser 441 mic on the b...

Neutrik NYS-SPP-L http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/NYSPP/ But are they able to be FULLY normalized? I want to be able to connect pairs through the back and have the connections be able to...

ANY Fully Normalized Patchbays Out There??

Are there any patchbays out there that are FULL NORMALIZED - that are of high quality, and hold the cables securely in place???? I sold my DBX PB48's because they did not have offer FULL normalization. I need my patchbays to connect vertical pairs from the rear and have that connection broken on whe...

Copyright AFTER Band Splits?

I've been in a band for 3+ years and wrote about 80% of the MUSIC on our CD that just came out. We split up one day before the CD arrived at our door. Me and the drummer are on our own now and I've taken my songs with me. I'm writing new lyrics for my music. My question is: Can I copyright the songs...

I have a old D12 (not 112) and some vintage 421's (gray). I've been using the D12 - but now want to add some more point to my sound. Would anyone use BOTH or (one-or-the-other). Check the kick out here (on my latest CD that came out in June). Tell me if the sound (of the kick) needs some help: http:...

RE20 - Is It Worth Using For Kick

Quick poll - how many of you are using an RE20 for kick drum?

If you do, can ya'll post some examples of good RE20 kick capture.

I'm trying to find a reason to revisit my 'original' reason for buying this mic.

Thanks Tony. We're going to be working on a "mock" Classic-Albums type thing next. That should be cool.

Hey - We Made A Commercial For New Album!

Mixing is done with our album (finally after almost 3 years of assorted setbacks)... We documented some of the recording process and decided to make a commercial for fun and learning of Final Cut. The video shows a lot of the drum set ups and the studio, as well as some obvious "pretend-playing" for...

If you can - make one of those mics a 441. That's one magic snare mic. Typically used on the bottom, I choose to use mine for the top.

What kind of bass sound did you get using a 421 on the bass cabinet? Did you find it provided enough low end? what about the other frequencies?

And me too - I'm Glad YOU're not really dead

Phase is everything when you're recording a drumkit. +1 If you're using a DAW, you can also look at the wave forms and see if they are out of phase. Two out-of-phase singals will be opposite in appearance. I.E. - one wave dips and the other peaks. Lots of threads on this as well on the site. Helped...

Thanks guys for the feedback up to this point. I didn't want to bias anyone's opinion by saying which I like or dislike. My only mention was that of debate... There is a consistent theme in the feedback I recieved - and I agree with it. Here's my personal take - To my ear, the bass guitar in the unt...
