The new Geoff Emerick book has been a favorite this last year among the control room couch crowd. A non-music hit is the book of historical regional photographs and landmarks - great fun for local & visiting artists alike. Also, Betty & Veronica Double Digests seem to hold a strange fascination for ...

Pffft, don't pay any attention to Artie, that's a solid gold mixing technique.

Just make sure your mastering guy is aware that the master level changes are intentional so he or she doesn't compensate for them and even things out. (Not that any decent mastering engineer would do so, of course.)

Can't go wrong with a Radial JDI. Nice fat Jensen xformer, great sound. Watch out for the sansamp bass di - it's a pretty decent box for gritting up the bass, but it's NOT a DI - it will not pass a clean signal even in bypass mode. We ended up having to ask the bassie to retrack a couple of bass par...

CDBaby is cool with you sending them 1 cd so they can digitize it and submit to their 30+ online distributors, but never sell a physical copy.

I can't recommend them highly enough. Great CS, great vibe, awesome company.

Unfortunately, the explicit use of auto-tune as an effect has been popularized by recent Jamaican hits, and is now spreading like a cancer over the rest of the Caribbean.

Please people, sing with your regular voice! It's so much more engaging!

OTOH, your idea of starting with the harp (recorded to a click track probably), and building the rest of the song from there could be a really great approach, too.

Nothing wrong with it, as long as your players are comfortable recording to an existing rhythm track/click track.

Not necessarily, as the elastic audio engine will analyze your audio and place "pins" at all the transient points, but you'll probably get the best results by putting anchor points at bar lines and dragging them around manually.

Good luck! Let us know how it works out.

off the top of my head, you could draw a tempo line that ramped up over the course of the selection, then quantize the elastic audio anchor points to that tempo map.

You can use a 3" hole saw to cut a neat hole in both sides of the wall, then slather up a piece of 3" pvc with caulk and jam it through. Let about 3" protrude on either side, and thoroughly caulk seal both gaps where it pierces the wall. The tube can be filled with a length of pipe insulation and ca...

As a quick fix to a less-than-perfect soldering job, electrical tape is just fine. I sometimes cut a very thin strip of it and use needle-nose pliers to wrap the offending area, rather than trying to wedge a large piece in there. You can also get teensy tiny nippers and try to snip out the offending...

Just thought it was worth reinforcing the idea that not every song on an album is going to kiss the ceiling. An album should flow with the correct "weight" from song to song, not ring the bell every time. Usually my final step in preparing a master CD is to listen to the transitions, from about 30 s...
