My first post reflected some non-audio tools I have in my studio, but I guess the OP could also be interested in actual audio stuff, so here goes: Accurate tuner (like the Peterson. They have an iPhone app!) A high quality DI box. Radial makes a bunch of different ones, or you can make your own at d...

I use the CRC stuff for washing off whole circuit boards, or cleaning off connections before I solder them, any big picture stuff like that where I want things cleaned off. But for actuall connection points, like edge connectors, socketed ic's, the pins in an XLR or the contact points in the patch b...

I've seen that same M147 on Craigslist. My first thought was that it was very likely stolen by someone who didn't know enough about it to also steal the power supply, and I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Use a Fender or Rickenbacker bass with FLATWOUND strings. And tell the guitar player to leave all his pedals at home!

You could also hire Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye and Joe Osborn to play on your record....

I've been using a pair of them for about 5 years. I've found that they are kinda hyped in the high mids. The dynamics are pretty good at low listening levels but the internal amps start to compress when playing loud. So you get done with your tracking and crank it up, and it sounds so exciting, and ...

I did this once, replaced the lead vocal with an isolated vocal track from the Doobie Bros' "Long train running" I picked up somewhere. Everything was fine for the first few seconds and then everyone fell over laughing.

Wire for Sound

Check out this 60s short film about how wire is manufactured: http://www.youtube.com/user/industryfilmarchive#p/u/39/nfQtjimsjMI Pretty gritty industrial process; I wonder how the modern "oxygen free" stuff gets made. Or maybe the vintage wire is better because the shop foreman boils his tea on the ...
