The other three drummers are Hal Blaine.

I have a pair of KRK Rockit 8's. Maybe it's my room. But they lie lie lie! Hyped high end that's hard to tame with the rear panel knob without just making them worse. And when pushed, they compress instead of clipping. I use them at the space to make sure I'm actually getting sound onto disk, but fo...

Tectum - acoustic control panels

Anyone ever use this stuff? It looks like the ceiling from an old Howard Johnson's.

You know, I'm really impressed with my new LA610. I had a M610 for some time, but the compressor is really useful. It works great on giving that all import "warmth" to vocals and is also an amazing bass DI. +1 from me on this box - love it for many vocals (not all, but fortunately mine work great t...

You have two options is circumstances like this: A) Be brutally honest, poke fun of yourself, and keep people smiling. B) Be sneaky. On Saturday I was tracking bass, and the bass player was very very very nervous. She's a classically trained musician, but only recently picked up the bass, and this ...

Is the lack of computers a philosophical choice or a financial one? If it is a philosophical choice, you might need to re-evaluate your stand on audio quality, as 16bit/44.1khz on a consumer machine is a substantially lower fidelity format (and completely lacking in "professional headroom", for lack...

Is this a MX5050 8 track or 2 track? The 8 track has a PB level trimpot on the back, the MX5050 2 track has trimpots on the circuit card inside the box. PITA to deal with. I have never gotten my MX5050-2 aligned to my satisfaction.

Here's something I tried recently after listening to some mid 60s motown at a bar where I could only hear one speaker. I was hearing drums, bass, some horns, and what sounded like the just the reverb returns from the vocal reverb, which seemed to be delayed about a quarter note. The odd thing was th...

You don't need two MRL tapes unless you plan on recording at 7.5 ips as well as 15 ips. There are speed-specific calibrations for playback and record EQ, and these only kick in when that speed is selected; so don't worry about calibrating for 7.5 ips if you aren't going to use it. Dang....I haven't ...
