Yeah, I don't know if this is a calibration thing. Maybe it is, I really don't want to open this up and poke around if I don't have to... Again, if I increase tension on the leaf spring, it behaves the way I want it to. Self-oscillation to the point of distortion... To bend the leaf spring, or not b...

Cleaning the heads made no difference. I will try another loop this weekend.

Thanks for the response Dakota. I've heard that it can be the loop, but does it tell us anything that if I increase tension on the leaf spring manually, the intensity of the feedback increases? This made me think "misaligned leaf spring" not old tape or dirty heads. It's certainly worth a shot thoug...

Weak feedback on Roland Space Echo RE-201 tape delay

So I scored a mint, and I mean MINT Roland RE-201 tape delay. It functions really great, except the feedback/intensity is weak for my taste. Not nearly as strong as my other RE-201. Considering that I killed my other RE-201 trying to fix it, I am hesitant to tamper, but I did try increasing the tens...

Thanks for the reply themagicmanmdt, and that's a beautiful space you have there in Chicago! The reverb works, it's output is just very weak, it worked better years ago. I did not try to find a replacement for a number of reasons, primarily cost and availability. It's been in 2 different shops and I...

Well I seem to have made things worse. I opened up the unit, and patched the rca connection from the spring verb to an external pre, boosted the gain, and ran it back to the unit. A good workaround I thought. I seemed to work OK for a bit.... At some point after doing this, I lost the erase/record f...

Who wants to give me advice on Space Echo Maintenance?

I have a Roland Space Echo (real one, not reissue) RE-201 that I've had for about 15 years. It's always worked like a champ. But since the last servicing, I've noticed a significant dropout when the splice rolls around. After going round and round with the repair shop about some other issues, I opte...

Thanks guys. I am a firm believer of "cmnd + s", but even more so of "save as" to do incremental saves along the way.... ;-) I picked up my MBOX 2, downloaded Pro Tools 8, and am now waist deep in the program. You are right wedge, the gui is very familiar, close to Logic or Nuendo, not hard on the e...

Please tell me I did not just come off like one of those jerks on the .rec.audio.pro newsgroup. I hate those guys.

I was trying to be supportive and lend some perspective. If it came off like a sermon, I apologize.

This sucks, and I feel your pain, but.... I fixed Macs for years. Applecare often pays for itself. If you never have to use it, great. If you do, you will saved yourself several times the cost of Applecare. I had a G5 that ran like a tank, until it didn't. Then I replaced it. I also have a small arm...

Thanks Bantam. Yeah, the DAWs are DAWs concept has always been my philosophy as well. With the exception of Ableton Live, which is an entirely different animal, most transitions to a new DAW have taken place over a few days to a month. I'm probably grabbing the M-Box 2 on Monday during the big annoy...

Old schooler needs a Pro Tools crash course

I have avoided DIGI like the damn plague for the last 15 years and I've liked it that way. But now I am up for a job that works almost exclusively in Pro Tools. I've been doing music with computers since 1990 or so... but am severely Pro Tools deficient. I was thinking I would go out and buying a ch...

Just got the Fairchild and Pultec Pro to compliment the Nevana 64 bundle.
That's all I could afford for now. But I think that will keep me happy for a while!

Just thought I should check back with this thread. The Nevana 64 bundle arrived roughly a month after I last posted. By then I was in a bit of a financial pinch, and thought I may need to sell it. So I did not open it until recently. I was apprehensive at first, as I'd mentally accepted that I was g...
