When I was an undergrad, one of my classmates in a Max programming class had synaesthesia - for her final project she programmed a patch that, when fed a monophonic input, would show the color her synaesthesia 'produced' for her.

It was really, really cool.

After seeing countless computers go down for no reason just before or in the middle of tracking live shows, I'm never using a computer for location recording without a 100% redundant backup again. I heartily endorse the HD24/HD24XR idea - however, like you said, it's definitely better for tracking a...

Weber Headphone Tap/Attenuator, patchbays, cables

Just getting rid of a few random things, trying to clear some space; thought I'd put them up here first. PM me if you want, but I check my email (wren dot audio at gmail dot com) far more often. First: Weber Headphone Tap. $60 shipped. Also works as an attenuator and amp DI, or even all those things...

It says on page 5 of the manual: 200w per channel @8 ohms. Even if the amp was 400w/channel, you'd still be fine. It's actually recommended to have your power amp's wattage around double that of your PA speakers - if your amp distorts, that distortion is what might blow your speaker. If the amp is r...

The RMX 850 operates in stereo at 8 ohms @ 200 W. I wouldn't set it up in Bridge Mono - absolutely no need.

The manual will answer any questions you have about the dip switches:

I've been wanting to buy one of your seven-string versions for awhile; if you could get the package of 7-string standard, 7-out breakout box, and cable to a little under $200 I'd absolutely jump at it.

If they came with an x-over and a tweeter, then the woofer probably isn't designed to reproduce the treble that the single driver ones do and the port is going to skew the sound even bassier. I don't think you can really call your things auratones any more. Yeah, that's kind of what I'm wondering. ...

I have the single driver 5C Auratones like these: http://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/thumbs1/auratone-5c-94569.jpg that I bought offa the evil-Bog based on info from here and Mike Senior's book. Yes, in comparison to my Tannoy's they sound like a full-range version of a decent AM radio, but that...

Auratone skepticism

So, I've had a pair of Auratone 5ctv's for about a year now. I had to refoam the speakers (first time I've ever done that so I could've messed it up somehow). And I dunno what's wrong with me, but...I don't like them. At all. I find them totally unhelpful. They sound awful, and whenever I make any s...

I just bought a couple of those recently-reviewed Monoprice headphones and I have to say I agree with the review 100%: not as good for critical listening as my nicer headphones, but music's more fun to listen to on them and they'd still be a fair deal if they cost $100. They sound great and they see...

Re: Alesis HD24 Options

There's a Firewire adapter that lets you move files between an HD24 and a computer pretty speedily - if you have a computer around that's just a data/transfer mule that would solve the "track with you, mix elsewhere" problem. That said: ...computer recording doesn't really fit into my philosophy as ...

Fire marshals (if you're running a commercial studio) are a huge, huge concern. They tend to be total bastards, in my experience, and they'll probably zero in on something on the walls wrapped in fabric and demand to see documented evidence of its fireproofing. I'd doubt even a receipt for spray-on ...

Would you mind rattling off that laundry list? I'm curious to read it.

Sounds really, really cool! I dig the guitar sounds especially. Care to share anything about the process? This is on pretty crappy speakers, but I feel like sometimes I'm hearing some kind of continuity of ambiance (for lack of a better way of putting it) between the vocals and guitars - it isn't so...

This should work, I think. It worked for my 5CTV's which is a different model number but probably has the same driver. Verify the measurements, and if they're correct you're good to go.
