regardless of budget, the 'technique' at any recording facility should be to see what the band is capable of, and then work backwards from there.

For my own music, that means with tracking a drums/bass/rhythm guitar track at the same time. Even if it's 1 mic on drums.

I'd love a clean VHS/DVD copy of that event, such great energy and fun..

Looks like figuring out the mic will be a guessing game.. maybe beyer M500?

OK, i've got something listen-able, mix isn't totally finished but it's mostly there I think. I used the glyn johns setup with a mic under the snare. Same mics as I used for my experiments above. This is a more rock oriented thing. I am TOTALLY open to suggestions about this mix by the way. http://...

I don't know the real Glyn Johns setup, but here's a typical 3 mics (oh, snare, kick) clip of mine: http://www.shirleyrolls.com/Glitter_Baby.mp3 OH: shure bg4.1, 5-6 ft up, behind right-handed drummer's right shoulder, pointing down to where snare shell meets kick shell. snare: 57 kick: 421 all mics...

I don't record anything in stereo, I just pan mono tracks/bounces. It's fun, you plan-as-you-go, figuring which tracks want to be together in a bounce and move quickly. If your bounces suck you just compensate with an overdub and get it better next time. I have a tascam 48 and I do everything 'wrong...

What is it about the new board that you think is "worse". There's too many forums now, it was better when there was just general recording. the 'mega'board option looks horrible. It's nearly impossible to have a discussion about 'recording techniques' that does not involve 'gear talk', and vice ver...

This must be a joke, yeah?? Praise the cops? My post here is in praise to the last tapeop messageboard, the one that worked and was good. This one no worky so well. In all sincerity - take this as a point of departure for discussion - why are you still here then? Even tho the board is worse now, th...
