But my point is this: there is craft to be learned from every bit of music. We are forgetting Barney the purple dinosaur. He could make any song suck. He could sing friggin' "September Gurls" and even that would suck. wait, doesn't inverse room do a Barney track with the lyrics, "Bush stinks! Bush ...

I liked Joan Baez a bit more (up from being gravely frightened by her excessive vibrato) after watching her use several dozen four-letter words in a row during those interviews if we're talking about the same movie But I thought this thread was supposed to be about how Bob Dylan doesn't like today'...

guitar amp volume when recording
not strictly on topic, as i think everyone here is talking about relative volume in a recording space, but insofar as it may affect tone, what about the notion of diming the amp but adjusting volume on your guitar? i've heard of many players that prefer this technique. i have to say with the amps i ...

normally i would leave this alone, but i want to support the tape op crew for putting the review in the mag. in hopes that things like this will continue to happen. it's a good read. creativity is born from many sources, and i believe the word creative is actually on the cover. for anybody to compl...

What was your best garage sale/thrift store/pawn shop find?
'63 bandmaster head- free from a friend who didn't know (or care) what it was. needed a re-capping & general tune-up (and it took me over a year to find a matching cabinet), but hard to complain about the entry-level price. a friend of mine is always finding cool stuff for either free or dirt cheap....

Hey, it's all in good humor. No offense. Frankly, I don't like the guy that much. I think his music sucks, his voice is lousy, and his songs are bombastically pretentious in a silly way. Worse still, I think the guy is a complete fake. Instead of a rambling, happy-go lucky, Guthriesque troubador, I...

Judy Collins's "Wildflowers" is one of my favorite records of all time. i remember, during my first adolescent party w/ folks out of town and beers courtesy of someone's older sibling, realizing the value of liking (or even pretending to like) something that wasn't cool: the absolute hottest girl i...

Also have a Epiphone Korina SG which is a sensational guitar for 300 bucks on Ebay. i have same guitar, and really like it! two curiosities: i assume because korina is maybe less dense than mahogany, the guitar's balance is a bit headstock-wonky; wonder if you've experienced this also (and if the o...

I do hope that any article on DEVO gives props to Alan Myers. His signature drum work on 'Satisfaction' (among others) really contributed to DEVO's sound, imho. Funny, he was the electrical subcontractor on our design studio when we moved about 6 years ago. He was just a nice guy in a sikh's turban,...

a few links relative to the rather strong evidence of deforestation associated with palm oil production for biodiesel in maylasia: http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2005/12/06/worse-than-fossil-fuel/ and some comments, astute and otherwise: http://www.autoblog.com/2005/12/08/biodiesel-is-the-wrong-ans...
