Greg Dulli?
Has he ever been interviewed? I searched the site, but nothing came up. The Twilight Singers just came out with a new record and I've been going back through a lot of Afghan Whigs CDs. I have to admit, he has a certain writing style that I dig a lot, plus the production on the Twilight Singer record...

While I agree that you will usually get better sounds out of individual effect pedals, the allure of the multi-effect is pretty obvious. I had a Yamaha Magicstomp that allegedly had the same processor as the SPX90. It did have very yummy reverbs and delays. The "crunch" and "overdrive" stuff was shi...

Disappointing that they got pulled, I guess there's more revenue yet to be extracted from them :( I was going to comment that playing these solo'd tracks for new bands coming to record the first time would, I think, be pretty beneficial (well, perhaps not vocs!). I remember hearing some similar trac...

Oh. Or Chad just sent me this after seeing this posting. Let me know if any of the other stuff in the New Age category is better. I have no idea what else is up for consideration. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC I can't vote, but that's very nice stuff. I've always had a bit of a soft spot in me for thi...

Of my parsimonious mic collection, the AT3035 and the SM57s get the vast majority of use. I got the 3035 thinking it would be great for acoustic guitar, vocs, etc. It is, but I kind of prefer the SM57 on acoustics (can't articulate why, it just sounds a little better to my ears on my guitar). I'm d...

Thanks for the replies everyone. And ottObot, I have thought about what you recommend, maybe a used RE-20 or one of Heil mics. Of my parsimonious mic collection, the AT3035 and the SM57s get the vast majority of use. I got the 3035 thinking it would be great for acoustic guitar, vocs, etc. It is, bu...

Basic Cascade Fat Head (deal in banner)?
Is the Fat Head a good first ribbon? That deal seems pretty good. I would use it for a variety of sources. I read the thread discussing it vs. the Nady RSM-4. I probably would not get it modified in the near future, so I'm looking for something interesting out of the box. My other mics currently are...

I have a frankencaster (ESP neck, don't know the body) that is awesome. It was put together by a Nashville session player. He stuck a fender sticker on the headstock--I always assumed he'd done it just to avoid hassles. I never thought much about it, then I had it set-up by the dude in Chicago who b...

A very versatile bass is the G and L L-2000. You can get a LOT of different sounds out of it. The three little switches take some getting used to, but they provide a tonal range that's both useful and fun. Get a used one that was US made. Should be around a grand or maybe a little more. Very nice b...

As a one-time member of a "band too loud" I have to say that getting everyone to be more quiet is a hard hard hard thing to accomplish. They need to start playing less loudly way in advance of coming to the studio to record (or the club to play for that matter). I also think that tendency for this t...

iMac 2.66 here, with Logic 8 (soon to be 9) and a couple of Metric Halo boxes. I'm recording to the internal drive (rarely doing more than 2-3 tracks). May move to an external drive if I see issues, but don't anticipate any. Awesome computer though. I bought the 20" because frankly I found the 24" j...

Buying software on eBay?
I'm about to upgrade to Logic 9. I can get the upgrade on eBay for 164 (or something like that), it's basically 199 everywhere else. What gives? Is it safe to get it off eBay? I've always gone with Apple or Smalldog when buying logic upgrades in the past.

I notice G&L is making the f-100 again. Those are pretty great and I'd say versatile--at least the old ones were. I came soooo close to shelling for one about 10 years ago, a lot of regret I passed on it. Sadly, the new ones are very pricey. The Ibanez mentioned is interesting too. My studio is stri...

I recently saw someone playing an SG in a very surprising context (well, not too surprising as I can't remember the details, I just remember being surprised). What about a G&L Tribute ASAT? Those are relatively cheap and are awesome. They're basically Teles in a variety of configurations. I want the...
