Re: eBay seller sent me the wrong mic....

Hmm. If it's like my experience, when the seller doesn't respond to a request for return, it's Ebay that refunds you the buyer, and you can keep the item. In my experience, that has happened when the item was expensive to ship and defective, or the seller is a douche and fighting about it. Or, as a...

Re: eBay seller sent me the wrong mic....

Sounds like you're obligated to send it back then. You initiated a return and got a refund. Not sure they'll be too happy if they don't get the mic back. The seller may be bad with communicating (stupid on their part), but it sounds like you're on the hook. I could be wrong.

Re: multitrack handheld recorders

If I was using it to try and get "real" drum tracks, I guess I'd position it on a stand about chest height and 5-10' in front of the kit, or alternatively, high and behind like an overhead stereo pair... GJ ^^^^ This. Not sure if you want to use the surround feature, if you have a sonically beautif...

Re: McDSP Analog Channel - AC101 on every track

While some pro's have suggested stereo wideners for a final mix, I've never been a fan of wideners on a final mix or even on individual tracks. To my ears they suck the life out of the material. Are the stereo imagers/wideners ment for mono tracks, stereo or both? Sorry I can't speak to the multi m...

While some pro's have suggested stereo wideners for a final mix, I've never been a fan of wideners on a final mix or even on individual tracks. To my ears they suck the life out of the material. Electric guitar tracks are so easy to screw up and I usually come back to leaving them alone for the most...

Re: McDSP Analog Channel - AC101 on every track

The first thing that comes to mind is maybe consider using the plug in an Aux Buss. When I know I'm going to have several instances of a "color" plug like that, I'll set the plug up in an Aux buss and send all the tracks I want to treat in a similar way to that buss. If the 101 sucks the punch out o...

Re: eBay seller sent me the wrong mic....

Wow, what a deal!

As far as ethics though, as an avid ebayer myself, I would recommend letting the seller know about it.

Tempting though to stay mum and keep that puppy.

Paying off that mortgage sometimes takes priority over playtime in the studio.

I bought this mic from you somewhere between '03 and '05 I believe and its still one of my absolute faves.

Who's still using their "Alice" mic from Scott Hel

I'm interested to know who is still using their Alice mic from Scodiddly (Scott Helmke). I've been using the mic for acoustic guitar and vocals over the past few days and am still in love with this thing.

Honestly I had what I consider to be excellent results from 2 mics by a company called iSK. The tube mic sounds gorgeous to my ears on vocals, acoustic guitar and amps. The condenser they call the Starlight is really impressive to my ears as well. They feature premium electronics and better capsules...

Some of my best sounding home recordings used a Tandberg Model 12 tape deck to pass the signal through to my DAW. The sound was so dimensional it freaked me out. Each instrument was thick and gooey and had its very own space in the soundscape unlike when you record straight to DAW. Then dumping the ...

After years of looking I finally found a Harmony H165 mahogany acoustic. From what info I can find I think it's mid 50's. Found it on craigslist but it turns out the seller is a friend of mine. Got it for a song but it's going to need a bunch of work. I'm still pretty stoked though. Congrat's on th...

Now that you have one of those you could do a cover of Eddie Vedder's "The Wolf" from the Into The Wild soundtrack.

The Alice was the precursor/inspiration for the TapeOp omnis, right? I made a couple of those when they were the craze around here... ended up putting them in a manikin head, with a wax-filled coconut shell for a skull and rubber elf ears, to make a binaural head. Works pretty well. Anyone still ro...

I still make the Alice mics, but I'm not sure I'd count them as crazy lo-fi mics. To me they are the mics that sound natural on guitars and a few other instruments. Yeah Scott, I didn't mean to imply the Alice was Lo-Fi. just wanted to add it to the discussion because its so unique and offers a fla...
