I just thought of another potential problem. How would it affect the tape if the record and playback heads were left engaged? If they need to be released when the delay is not in use, I'm going to start looking at some of the fancier home stereo tape decks which use a motorized head engagement syste...

Ya I should be able to find some pics online of the inners of an Echoplex. I only know one person who owns one, but I believe they live in California right now. A feedback loop would probably be easier to do than using multiple heads- also I don't think I could keep the tape in the cassette if I wer...

Ooooh... I didn't even think about mini tapes. That is a great idea. I think I have an answering machine in my scrap stash as well. I would probably need to score a few more answering machines for extra heads, unless I can find them individually somewhere. That makes much more sense than using full ...

DiY Tape Delay?

I've been ripping some parts from old electronic gear, that I've been keeping for years for an unknown reason (to my wife at least) up until now, some of which include old Walkmans and the like. I was wondering if I could use some of those parts to make my own tape delay. Something like mounting the...

what kind of distortion boxes did he use that no one else can get their hands on? I got that from an interview with him years ago. I think it was a paper I wrote on him in high school, so over ten years ago. He didn't mention what it was, but apparently it was custom built for him. He was just boas...

Interesting. I finally got around to listening to his project with Saul Williams. I'm not sure about it yet. Parts I do like though. It's pretty obvious Trent had a big part on the album, especially in using his distortion boxes that 'nobody else could ever get their hands on'. I'll have to check th...

I'm checking out the Harmony database site but for the life of me I can't find my guitar in there. All the guitars on that site actually look very nice, especially the hollow bodies. On mine you can see the poles (silver with black casing) on my single coils. Maybe I'll take a pic and start a new th...

Seconded on the Nashville tuning. Give him our Harmony with insane action and teach him a few chords or how to play I Can't Explain or something. If he can make it through that on a real cheap guitar he'll appreciate his first Mexican Fender that much more. Aha! The action on the Harmony wasn't bad...

it's a sort of 12-string minus the lower octave sound and can be shimmery in the right setting without sounding folk rock. Sounds very cool. I could probably put that to good use. I'll definitely be trying it when I have the extra cash for a new set of strings. Any particular gauge work better for ...

Some of those Harmony guitars, the ones with the microphonic pickups and the crappy pine bodies? ...damn, talk about some feedback. And hugely fat tone, when processed correctly... How do I figure out what type of pickups are in it? I'm not sure of the type of wood used on the body, but it is very ...

It was nice to hear this, because it gives me more of an idea of the bass sound you are going for. I'm going to do my best to match that tone.

Could you replace that knob with a dual concentric one? Use it as a single band notch/peak EQ. Use the inner knob for gain, and the outer band for selecting the frequency.

Hmm... I've never heard of this Nashville tuning before. It sounds like a good option for my extra acoustic waiting to be restrung. I was also looking at the body to my first electric, an old Harmony. Its neck is on a Kramer, but I'm thinking of returning it. The neck feels great, but the single coi...
