Re: tips for mixing a live recording - using gates etc

I came here to say my preference is to not do a hard gate, just set the gate to turn down “to taste” and not completely mute. Or just do volume automation. Depending on how problematic, you may be able to dial it in using multi band tools like Neutron and or a spectral editor like RX to clean up the...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

It's just the action of the bar, the way it bends the notes, the way it sits in your hand. You can't do dive bombs on it, it doesn't have that much travel, but that makes it great for doing subtle stuff, gentle vibrato on chords, that sort of thing. And of course, the now-classic Kevin Shields styl...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

standard 2 point trem if they must have a wiggle stick. I agree that the stock JM bridge is useless garbage, but the trem is a thing of sublime beauty, no one's gonna put a regular 2 pt trem on a Jag or Jazzmaster. Ok FINE, someone will, there's people who'll put a Floyd on a 335, but generally if ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

A silverface Vibro Champ which sadly arrived with a farty speaker (replacement on the way), and a Squier CV Jaguar. It took some work to turn the guitar into something playable, but it's pretty solid now. Squier Jag Crop.jpg I am recently a fan of some of the things Squier puts out, but I can’t for...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Sweet light, fast, 30" scale - huge variations in tone on the bass (bass) sound - came with some foam behind the bridge and I like it. The Longhorn came with TI flats, also, which are themselves pretty cool, if rather expensive. I shall be recording it forthwith as part of my personal March MPR cha...

Re: Another Tascam 388 wonderer...

I have owned 4 of them over the years. Currently have 2. I think they are super cool, have had some minor repairs and adjustments that I could do myself, and one had a motor / electronics issue that I had to pay someone a lot to fix. Also had the heads lapped on one of them. Tape cost on these is re...

This showed up….cheap, but with the shaped case and upgraded pickups, had to do it. Downside, was absolutely loaded with stickers on the back…this photo was before I removed them all.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

As per my other post, I just picked up a pair of the Monoprice active ribbon mics. I resisted as long as I could but at $49 each I finally caved. My first impressions are really good. The come in a nice steel suitcase virtualy identical to the one the my 414s came with. There's a pop filter and a s...

Re: Vid19 (it's still out there) and your ears?

Can’t say I had this experience, but I did have to take decongestants for about a week following just for sinus issues. Have you tried this? a little relief but not at all normal. Maybe I'm impatient but I don't like it at all! I get it, I have had my ears get pretty stuffed up before when sick. I ...

Re: Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)

I don’t get the appeal for most contemporary music. For film, it can be cool. We had a top tier theatre in town with the best projection and a real atmos setup, was very impressive for certain things. Sadly they got bought by AMC and I will not funnel any money into them. If you’ve seen those Nicole...
