console with no preamplifiers

Many years ago I freelanced at a studio here in Austin called Bismeaux. They had a massive selection of outboard pre's, eq's and dynamics. There console had no pre's or eq's in it. -----Benson notes. "It was originally a D&R, but we rechipped it and took the mic pre's out of the board. We took the c...

if this problem comes back you might want to just go through and wet the connections where the white "socket-ey" part meets the green PCB.
when you say "wet the connections" what exactly do you mean?

so I followed your advice. i pulled the card on 11 and placed 12 in it's place. during playback the sel-rep head was playing back just fine. i put 11 back in it's place and returned 12 to it's slot and everything seems to be working great! i guess the card just needed to be reseated. thanks to you b...

why are my LA-4 meters going screwy?

i've got a pair of LA-4's that are in good condition and the other day one of the meters stopped reading gain reduction. I went in to try and recallibrate it following the manual http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Vintage%20JBL-UREI%20Electronics/UREI-LA-4%20manual.pdf adjusting the R49 pot and I got ...

i just talked to someone at US recording and he said (much like joel) that 1/2" splicing tape on 1" is a standard. He said that 1" is a standard for 2" and that it works the same way. You do attach it vertically. As far as he knows 1" splicing tape is dead. At least for now. No one is making it. So,...

Thanks for the attempt Joel, the info is actually helpful though. One question... are you using the 1/2 inch splice vertically or are you just not attaching it all the way across the tape? (since it's narrower)

splicing tape shortage?

I'm having an impossible time locating any 1" splicing tape. Anyone have any advise on where it's available right now? ProTape in Austin is out, Tapes.com is out. I did some pretty in depth searching online and found absolutely nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would anyone be willing to se...

as it turns out it requires some kind of proprietary software that the client didn't know about. so in the end (we'll see i haven't tried it yet) but it would appear that the drive is working fine but requires software to be read.... alesis maybe? i'll find out this week.

are you suggesting that something is wrong with the drive? that i need to recover that data? before i run out and spend $100 on this software, are there any other avenues i should be exploring? FYI i tried opening it on a PC and i'm having the same problem.
