anything that gets the mouse out of my hand is a good thing. this looks WAY faster to navigate for those of us used to real hardware.

I can still do almost ANYTHING faster with a hardware studio than with a god damned computer.

Not THAT special, not that rare; it's all about paying for a name.

I know it's worth far more than is justifiable by the sound and build quality, and I love tube limiters. If you need money, then sell sell sell. I've seen them reach well over $3K when they pop up on ebay in the last year.

The magic question, 165db at what frequency? 1kHz? I may be wrong, but I bet low frequencies have drastically lower headroom points. All the new ribbon manufacturers seems to be using the 1kHz point, which may be misleading.

anybody know?

they will sell you the foam and it's not much. If it's like mine, it requires full dissassembly to replace. Mine hasn't enough wire to pull it out from the top, and taking the back apart and de-soldering is a bitch.

It's probably a cap that's leaking DC; it lasts for a little bit until the leakage creates enough unintended bias voltage to something else to shut it down. I've not heard of a resistor or a transistor working and then dying; only caps tend to do that IME.

it probably had a capacitor inside die. you can pry it open and re-cap it, or otherwise repair the problem, be it transistor, etc. Cheaper to just buy another though, unless you're curious.

try putting a healthy line level signal into it with the in and out wide open....and watch your monitors throw their cones against the opposite wall. Wear earplugs; it's gonna hurt.

the short answer is yes.

you would never use a distressor with the in and out totally cranked, so it's not a valid test situation. you are maxing out the noise floor by doing so, and it bears no relation to the way an RNC is gain staged.
