So I picked up a Solo 610 and an Avalon U5. I checked them out side by side last night with a Fender P bass and a Strat. I was able to run into one and take the thru output into the other. Didn't seem to matter what order they were in. Major differences: The U5 has six passive eq's built into it or ...

Klaus Heyne, the expert, has a discussion page. He is really good and the board is great too.

I record a lot of classical guitar, live concerts in a noisy hall. Never had the opportunity to record cello, I'd like to. Should be fun for you. I use a pair of Hamptone Mics that have K-47 caps, very much like Neuman U47's. They really sound nice. There can be a bit of upper mids that need to be r...

I'm with Tony. I don't go into a grocery store and start haggling. Why should I do that at a music store? Maybe it's because I don't so this that I was always treated well at GC. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC Some places, some country's you do haggle over grocery's and everything else. Some of my earl...

Guitar Centers New Pricing

Anyone run into GC's new pricing system yet? They have essentially done away with "preferred" customer pricing and have locked their prices. The only exception seems to be if you have a price match, that is in stock and doesn't involve shipping. I was getting great deals there but no more. It was ki...

Guitar amp: Rivera Rake Reverb Head

So it isn't a mic or a recording console...... A 1999 - 2000 Rivera Rake Reverb 55 watt guitar head. Like a Knucklehead K55 but the Rake has a hotter gain stage on channel one. There is also a Vintage / Modern switch on the back that switches between triode (vintage) and pentode (Modern) mode. The v...

i'm not seeing any photos, just blank pages. Me too. No photos even when I try to open in another window. I know Fender tube amps. There are similar to Marshalls. The standard answer for Fender amps would be: 1) check the tubes, especially the preamp tubes. Oh, and retention the tube sockets. 2) Cl...

Hi Will, Haven't seen you since the last PDX TapeOp beer night! I think you are stuck with Innersound. Although I hate them. They will take 30-50 dollars from you just to look at it and then quote you how much more it will be to fix it. They did me rotten on an old Peavy Keyboard amp. I had them tak...

I thought Britney was great on South Park. She can really gurgle gurgle! I love how they had to "get her into the studio right away". "Gurgle gurgle gurgle... that's it Britney!" That was my favorite part.

What a way to make money.

Looks like he is considering Rode K2's.... and some really good preamps. He has plenty of money for rent so that wont be an issue. Personally he should invest the cash but that isn't going to happen.

I thank you all for the suggestions and apologize for taking up your time.

Re: Amp recommendations

I basically want a louder version of my silverface champ with reverb and tremolo, under $500. ??? That price point is tough but if you look for a 70's Fender Deluxe reverb that is a bit beat up you might get one for $500. The Princeton Reverb with a good speaker might do it as well. I have a 1967 B...

U47-ish Overhead Suggestions Please

I've got a friend who is looking for some overheads. He really likes my Hamptone U47 mics but they are not available now. He has found some Lawson's, Neumans 147 etc and is considering them. He is mainly going to use the mics for drum overheads and he really wants something that is beatle'ish, he pl...

Waves has lowered their WUP fees, those fees they extort from you if you want to stay current or want the " ability " to pay to become current or to sell or transfer the product you bought. There is now a cap on how much WUP will cost you but your still getting "WUP'd", if ya know what I mean. Ya ca...

Gibson should just drop it and make a Les Paul / Guitar Hero model, a grown up version of the little plastic Hero Guitar with the buttons and lever. They'd probable sell more than the real stringed Les Pauls.
