Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Shuffled around some seldom used studio gear and acquired a couple old RCA ribbon mics, a Western Electric 639a, and a pair of EV 635a's. I need help.

Re: Anyone have a Mojave MA200 Mic?
I’ve got a pair of those, and both cables have 7-pin connectors. I swear the capsules are different, but I could be wrong.

Re: Recording Chain notation
I will sometimes note the mics used in the notes field at the bottom of the channel faders in PT, and occasionally the full signal chain, but the latter is more to keep me organized while I'm tracking. I don't ever use it as a reference later on. That’s how I do it as well. Usually the mic, preamp,...

Re: "Studio Grade" stud finder.
Could you source a magnet that would be strong enough to find the studs and/or screws?

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
All my Audix D2, D3, D4's now sold too (using Sennheiser MD421's instead). I kept the Audix i5 and D6 though. still use those sometimes. Nice. Do you ever use that D6 on floor tom? It was my only kick mic for a long time, but I recently got an RE20 so I decided to throw the D6 on the floor tom the ...

FS: Scamp Rack
ADR Scamp rack from the 70’s. Modules included are: 4x F300 Expander Gate 2x S01 Compressor 1x S24 ADT Module 1x S03 Sweep EQ 1x S100 Dual Gate I just performed a basic test on all modules, and everything works except for F300 module #4 , which has a weak output signal. As with any vintage audio gea...

Re: Fabric for bass traps/absorbers
Not sure where you're located, but I bought all my absorber coverings at Fabricland. As a general rule, if you can breathe through it, it's acceptable. There are higher end products out there like the Guilford of Maine stuff, but not totally necessary IMO, especially if you're on a budget. If you in...

Re: hughes srs ak100/stereo enhancers
Hello all. From time to time, I look around for info on the Bedini B.A.S.E. and Hughes SRS AK-100 stereo enhancers and I find little about them. I was wondering if anyone really knew the technical story about them and the circuit topology. I'm familiar with the Haas effect with short delays and I'm...

Re: Tape Plugins
Heard good things about Satin, yet to try it though. I like the Waves J37, particularly on tracks where the transients are poking out in a not so pleasant way. +1 on Slate VTM on mix buss. Drum buss too.

Re: 47 FET style mics
If you’re handy with a soldering iron you can build one of Dany Bouchard’s clones. I’m in the process of finishing mine up now, just waiting on the transformer (which arrived today). Vintagemicrophonepcbkit.com.

Re: How loud do you listen?
Way too loud. I know it’s a terrible habit, but I find that listening/mixing loud helps to keep me engaged. I don’t measure very often, but I’m usually somewhere in the neighbourhood of 85db. Not doing 10-hour mix sessions either. More like 3-4 hours with an ear break in the middle. +1 on cranking i...

Re: Out of phase guitars
Cool. I'll probably experiment with it a bit more, but I'm leaning towards just letting it fly as-is. Most preamp tube stages are inverting, so how many of those it goes through makes a difference. In some amps, one channel will have a different number of inverting stages from the other, so it will ...

Out of phase guitars
I was doing some guitar tracking last night and was pretty happy with the overall sounds. 2 amps, 2 mics on each amp. Listening back today, I realized the signals from amp #2 have their polarity flipped in relation to those from amp #1. When I "correct" those tracks by flipping the polarity, the gui...

Re: Touch Automation
I use touch for automating plugin parameters all the time, and do prefer it to drawing stuff in. Also recently bought one of those Behringer 8-fader things Dave mentioned, but haven’t gotten around to integrating it yet. It's pretty good but gets a bit funny in touch or latch mode in pro tools. It ...
