just to clarify as i know i was rambling: i do have everything i need backed up. i wholeheartedly agree that regardless of your OS, covering your ass and backing up data is just about the most important thing you can do when working with computers & digital audio. i've got most things on two differe...

anyone ever had a hard drive UNFORMAT itself?

this is what i've been dealing with today. my work computer, a quadcore xeon, xp sp3 system has a system drive, an audio drive, and sample drive (which also doubles as an internal backup drive and temporary video storage when i do video projects). i went to access the sample drive with the intent to...

m/s is awesome on drums, i've messed with it mainly as a front of kit setup, but you could also throw it overhead, hopefully you have a good room to try it in. one thing that i like to point out on mid side threads, is that although the mid mic is most often a cardioid, you can use any pickup patter...

wow i just spent the morning playing around with the pianoteq demo and i am really impressed. the ability to change the temperament and the unison width adjustment is kind of blowing my mind. i'd also be more tempted to record something with it that i'm not just gonna stick way in the back of a mix ...

Re: Drums with NO mics

Sometimes it's fun to just sit at the drums and play. definitely, i can't tell you how many times i've had the notion to record something and then i just end up playing drums for four hours without setting up any mics at all. i actually prefer it over the 2 and 3 mic setups, because it's more fun, ...

i wouldn't worry about it too much, sometimes there's music that just doesn't do it for you, and that's all it comes down to. it's hard to explain. i know there's a whole bunch of stuff out there that would be considered critically acclaimed (and i'm not gonna name names cause it'll inevitably turn ...

45 ft should be no problem for a non amplified dsub run, i regularly run 50-100ft vga cables on everything from a netbook to a pretty burly desktop i use for projection design stuff without worrying about signal loss at all. so my guess is that it's the cable, maybe a bad pin configuration or someth...

My computer is currently at 63 hours of processing straight. 2 x 2.5hr HD dance show with two cams. I'm exporting all the video footage with slight exposure, framing, and color adjustments. I've probably got less than two days to go. And this is on a beasty purpose-built i7 video desktop! The foota...

finished a hi def video project for work (my computers are just barely capable of dealing with hi def video, so it took forever, especially because i had the brilliant idea of doing hi def greenscreen work, keying out the green took 15 hours on it's own to render) got a show booked in town for some ...
