These guys have a great business model (incorporating a lot of what's already been said in this thread) -- http://www.radiograffiti.org/ If you purchase the vinyl you get download codes (from Bandcamp so flac or whatever you'd like) plus usually some stickers, buttons, pretty much whatever they can ...

Steinberg CI1

Not that I have any thing to really compare it to, but this little box has made me very happy. Seems to be getting good reviews so far... anybody here have opinions or experience with this line? Things I should watch out for or definitely try? http://www.steinberg.net/typo3temp/pics/c11efc656f.jpg

Here's a pack of samples I recorded form a Sequential Circuits TOM (has wav and mp3) of all the onboard sounds at low, normal, and high tunings:

OK, that makes good sense. That also explains why I get the same problem going from Reaper to the mixer (looks like it's -10 into a -30).

Thanks for the help! I'm slowly starting to understand the purpose of a real audio interface.

Reaper's meters are reading dbFS and your mixer's meters are reading dbVU. It's two different scales with two different reference points. Depending on how your soundcard is calibrated, 0dbVU on the mixer will be somewhere around -18dbFS in Reaper. This is the way it should be. It's also good to not...

FYI: In order to get everything to match up properly I'd need to lower the Windows controls to around 2-5% of full range. :(

Windows volume control: 100% = unity?

I'm trying to "calibrate" my mixer meters and Reaper meters (and faders). Having all the Windows volume controls all at 100% (which Microsoft claims is unity) is making this difficult to do without adding in some passive volume controls on all my soundcard inputs and outputs (2 in, 8 out). Am I real...

Wow, those are some great resources! I had planned on putting everything in Excel but this seems like a much better idea.

...still haven't found a repair shop that still has a tube tester :(

A not to exhaustive search turned up six 12ax7's and one Telefunken ecc85 so it looks like there's some good stuff in here after all!

OK, I won't bug you guys with this anymore. Thanks!

Fail, to many eggs in one basket. I know things have come a long way since (for instance) an EPS-16 but there's to many compromises to be made when so many form factors of PC are available and cheap.
