Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....

I picked up a Chameleon Labs 7802 compressor to go with my CL7602 pre/EQ, but it just didn't make the vocal chain happen as I'd hoped. A dbx160XT stepped in to fill the compressor role and the CL is sitting on the edge of a sofa waiting for someone to offer it money and a new home.

Re: List your Bandcamp page

https://antonbarbeau.bandcamp.com/music I've got about a billion records out, but Bandcamp has been a good place for me to practice my curation skills! If anyone's curious, I'd say Natural Causes is a well-rounded intro. Jangly and normal and weird and nicely-recorded. Mellotron, 12-string guitars ...

FS: Chameleon Labs 7802 opto tube stereo compressor $475

I'm selling a CL7802 compressor for $475 obo. I bought it second hand a couple months back and have only used it a few times. It works well, sounds great, it's just not what I need after all. The rack mount screw holes are worn, otherwise the unit is in very good shape. I'm not having luck uploading...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

The dbx160XT I ordered arrived today. As much as I'd love to suddenly start filling racks with outboard gear, the new item means very likely that my also recently-acquired Chameleon Labs 7802 opto tube comp will have to go. I have pretty basic hardware compressor needs - vocal from pre-amp always p...

Really good song and great sounds. A 4 track, eh? Good job!

Thanks much, Nick. I still have the MT-44, but I haven't used it for anything other than de-archiving lately. I was REALLY into that thing, obviously!

Similar, but different.

Re: Valerie's Waiting - epic teenage 4-track synthpop!

Takes me back to HS. New Romanticism, hairspray, and puffy shirts were all the rage. You got a *lot* out of that four-track for sure! GJ My final year of high school was meant to be all-music classes, but the music program was cancelled outright, so I took a proficiency exam and spent that year in ...

Valerie's Waiting - epic teenage 4-track synthpop!

Since jumping back onto the Tape Op board, I've been excited to see that 4-track culture is still alive and vibing. My own 4-track got a bit of use not long back when I used it to archive/update some ancient recordings. I released an album called Antronica 2, which combined new material with old son...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I'm living two lives these last few years, back and forth between Germany and California. After scoring the CL7602 in Cal, and noting a definite improvement in my recorded vocals, I dug out my JoeMeek 3Q when I was last in Berlin. While it's not able to fluff me up as much as the 7602, I'm glad to f...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

I should back up and say that some of the tracks I'm adding vocals to were indeed studio tracked. The most recent material has the band leader doing everything himself, including rocking out on his Roland kit in his Paris flat. Either way, there's plenty of vibe going around. My fantasy, when I'm al...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I said what I did because, AFAIK, there's a 160A, 160X and 16XT. There's a 163A and a 163X, also. And there is a 166XL and 266XL ... they have a gate. I have the 160XT, the 163X, and the 266 XL and the DOD 866II. The former is true old school, somehow sounds it. The latter two are near identical, I...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

Working remotely/from home (Wait, which one is which? Where AM I, man...?) isn't new to me but the particular situation with the French band is now being defined by the self-isolation vibe. For our first record, all my vocals were done in slick studios, though I'd usually work out parts at home to s...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

One thing I've been doing is spending more time in recording forums, hence my (apparent!) return here! I'm fortunate that a band I'm in is comprised of keen fellows all set up for home recordings under circumstances like ours now. So, I'm getting instrumental tracks sent to me from Paris while I'm o...
