Ebtech products are all real ass savers IMHO. I won't do a location gig (TV audio) without a few in the bag. The transformers they use are not exactly high end, but seem to hold up if you watch your levels. I suppose they could be replaced with better ones but it would not be cheap.

Acoustic control for location recording
I imagine that that many people who read TapeOp are amateurs like myself, who record primarily in homes, garages, and other small spaces. In reading T/O, we are repeatedly reminded of the critical importance of proper acoustic design and treatment. Commercial studios budget a large percentage of con...

I still find uses for my Tascam 234. It's a deck only, no attached mixer. When fed from some decent front end gear, it has a great sound considering the usable track area of cassette. I have used it as sort of a mixdown effect for some stuff. It doesn?t sound like 2 inch obviously, but there is defi...

Thanks Chris, I'm hoping it doesn't come to it, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The medical stuff involves dental bone grafting and reconstruction, so my regular medical insurance only covers a fraction of the cost. It's taken a lot of years, and hard work to accumulate this stuff, and...

Medical bills over 40K May have to liquidate
 Although I'm hoping for the best, I may have to sell this stuff to pay my huge medical bills. Some of it is brand new. All of it is in good condition What would be a fair price for the whole pile? MICROPHONES (Utility dynamics) SHURE SM57 ( several old beat up ) SHURE Beta 58 ELECTROV...

I think you're on the right track. Some years ago, some friends of mine recorded in a music room at a private school. They were originally planning to use the auditorium, but ended up liking the tighter sound of the choir room instead. I don't have any idea what it cost, but it couldn't have been to...

If the walkie talkies don't cut it, lemme know... I have several serious, fully functioning CBs, although they don't get used anymore... I have a President Washington SSB inside the house and a Cobra 148 SSB in the old truck that has an external speaker.... All I need is to put a fresh battery in th...

Discrete Discreet
Discrete Do you guys know if all of the mic pre’s claiming to be “fully discrete” are actually separate all the way back to the power supply? Is there an acceptable number of shared components before something can no longer be called discrete? Does it even matter? Does this term re...

Being a stinkin video guy for a living, I might be too hung up on reliability. And I can easily afford to replace a damn 300 dollar mixer every two years.. But why should I have to.. There are a lot of people who have to save for months or years to get one of these things.. It's these people I feel ...

Re: Mic manuf. for tapeoppers
You might find a way to import the things you can't make yourself.. the capsule mounted to an empty mic body.. You save them the trouble of all the fine assembly. Using parts you get yourself or a pre packaged kit to complete the project. Everyone would end up with an original.. idono..poux

Re: what should my first microphone purchase be?
For my current mic wishlist I think the AT's have to be a serious consideration.. I'm actually trying to talk someone out of theirs right now.. He's a bluegrass guy and for some reason he never uses it... A good 414 is also a good buy anytime... Sennheiser's dynamic 421 & 441 are also high on my lis...
