...oh yeah and then there's all that music....eww.

Where are these Mackie bashers? Here on this site?
Mackies are fine. I've never heard a mackie that sums worse than my computer or an standalone DAW...and those even sound fine.

Re: How do you open up a Sennheiser 421?
There is a serial number tag that needs to be removed, slide it out. Under it there is a small screw, remove it an carefully pull the XLR connector out. Inside there is a glob of silicone that can be very carefully cut away with a small exacto kife. There is a nut beneath that that opens the whole m...

I'm using my 388's mixer section
Hi Jake!
That's not ny exact mixer. Mine has the 16 inline monitor small faders on the right side. It works like a charm with my ATR60-16 on the 16 buss sends.
I like those 388s.

Re: portable two track
This is probably not what you are looking for but I suggest a minidisc recorder. They don't have phantom power but you can pick up a nice little stereo mic for them. The sound quality is at least as good as cassette and the thing is small. I would suggest this for a sketchpad or rehersal notebook bu...

Re: @#$% Lexicon
I got so pissed at Lexicon over this crappy system. A friend and I put together a system specifically on the recommended hardware and it wouldn't work no matter what. I tried it in every computer I could get my hands on (4) but each had it's own unique difficulties. It is now sitting in a box....gre...

If you want it to sound rock go with tape.
Get an 8 track or a one inch 16 track and never think about a DAW again.

If it were me I'd get a few colored permanent pens and make a huge logo or something on one. I would probably use another to collect autographs or something.

Re: acoustic guitar as swarm of bees
Try to mix in a few tracks of rapidly picked strings. I would do that and add a chorus while fading it in and out to mimic the dynamic changes of the song. Try a couple strings in the octave above and below while muting the lower octave strings a bit. Maybe do those parts at double the speed of the ...
