The Crowther Hotcake is another good one. It has a wide range of distortion from basically clean boost to fuzz-ish, and it sounds great at any setting.

It should be noted that convolution modelling does not work on non-linear processes. This means that anything that introduces distortion (like colored compressors or preamps) is not going to work with this kind of modelling. In theory it should work well for delays, reverbs, non-distorting eqs and t...

Re: Edirol UA-25: issues with DAT

Greetings all. I am the pained owner of an Edirol UA-25. I purchased it because it seemed to be the perfect, inexpensive all-in-one interface between my analogue (I dub vinyl and tape onto my HD and work them over) and my DAT world. The analogue portion has no issue. It handles line and mic inputs ...

Here's the most crutial thing you should do, IMHO, use one TapeOp ribbon under the snare. It sounds so natural on the snare, and you'll also get some good natural sounding kick beater. Hey MikeCzech- How do you position the ribbon? Do you have it angled between the snare and the kick so that one si...

Re: More soft synth help, please!

I guess the question is - will this work or do I need additional audio software (Cubase or whatever) for this to work? I'm hoping "standalone" means what it seems to mean and that this will work. Thanks. I just got m-tron, and I've tried out the standalone version on my home PC, and it works fine w...

A 57 a 421 and some love...and a micro limiter.
That's totally cool! Do you remember how the drums were recorded? Were they totally micro-limited?

Actually, a Pod works really well for this purpose. I don't really like it for guitar, but on lots of other things, it's great. What is the pod good for? I like messing around with it, but I've never found something that I like using it on. It's good for doing distorted vocals, you get lots of diff...

I think he admitted to her that he would be openly addressing the fact of her sex change in the book, though only briefly, and she took it rather personally. She evidently doesn't like to talk about it, or for it to be talked about. Which is too bad because it's pretty fascinating, you have to admi...

Yeah, that's happening to my band right now. We have a cd out and all that stuff. Registered band name...the like... We're a rock band, but more along the lines of Rilo Kiley. You know, non-offensive, indie rock that makes you think. This rip off band came out with a cd and a song called "Girl, You...

Re: stupid question regarding EH12AY7 or any other outboard

Hey JC, Thanks for all the info on this box. I just got one, and I've been digging it and so far, I haven't noticed any of the problems described by others. I do have a question, I was thinking of adding an input transformer, what do you think about that? I have a 10:1 transformer with 600ohm/60koh...

Re: stupid question regarding EH12AY7 or any other outboard

i'd encourage anyone to get to know their gear better and why not play around with it... as long as you don't care about losing the warranty/service agreement. the tranny you describe should work fine. however, the phantom supply will now be located on the wrong side of the tranny. this will requir...
