Thanks, I didn't realize it didn't have MIDI, which isn't too big of a deal. Not sure if the CueMix works with the 828 or not. On the Motu web site it's the same download for the 828 and 828 mkII, which says: "This install provides compatibility updates for Tiger OSX 10.4, and is compatible with OSX...

Motu 828 original vs. Motu 828 mkII- differences?
I used to have a Motu 828 mkII and loved it but ended up selling it because it was "more than I needed" and I was taking a break from recording. I picked up a MAudio FW410 which 1) I don't like and 2) is now not enough (not enough inputs) for what I need. Basically, I just want a simple interface wi...

Thanks for the responses. The best thing to do is to try really hard to quantify what you want to hear, what you are hearing, and what the difference between the two is. The solution is likely to be found in the identification of that difference. This is hard to explain with words but I'll try. Main...

Digital Recording Transferred To Tape- Worth It?
I recorded a bunch of my songs on what I would call pretty decent gear- Beyer M160's, Royer R122, Vintech Dual 72, EL Distressor, etc. The problem is I recorded these tracks on a computer (via Motu 828 and Logic). I haven't yet had these tracks mastered by a professional. Now, faced with a (possible...

San Francisco Tape Op-er Meet & Greet?
Hey All,
I just moved to San Francisco and am wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together at a bar or cafe or something? Looking to meet some similar minded people and see what's going on in this fine city...

Re: Mixing extremely high frequencies
Thanks... It's not a steady 16 kHz or anything, just kind of a slight delayed "blip" every 8 bars or so, mixed real low. But yeah, you are right, I mean even the difference between monitoring in headphones and on monitors is huge.

Mixing extremely high frequencies
I sometimes use a lot of high frequencies as rhythmic elements, lots of sine wave/test tone type sounds in the 12-16 kHz range. They seem very difficult to mix, as the slightest fader adjustment can make the difference between the sound being too loud and not being loud enough. Anyone have any trick...

Alan Moulder- TapeOp interview?
Does anyone know if Alan Moulder was ever interviewed in TapeOp, perhaps in an early issue? I am looking for more information on him, specifically on the Psychocandy sessions.
Thanks,
W

Re: English as a Major...
1) Do I have to be a total book worm to major in English? Since I'm not, is English probably not the thing for me (although I do enjoy writing, literature, etc.)? Would I be laughed out of the program by all the students and professors for not already knowing the complete works of Shakespeare, Twai...

Re: The Fiery Furnaces
I LOVE their first album (Gallowbird's Bark), but am not a big fan of Blueberry Boat... kind of seems like overkill. But Gallowbird's Bark was really mind blowing to me... I love her voice so much. I just saw them live 2 weeks ago. They did not stop through their entire set! Every song segued into a...

Some Sytek Questions...
These all refer to the MPX-4Aii. Here goes: 1) How would you describe the sound? Transparent, or does it break up nicely (or badly) when overdriven? I currently have a Grace 101 and at times it is a bit too clean. 2) Ever tried using it as a DI? (say with a Sansamp Bass DI which has an XLR out). 3) ...
