Pawn shop mic choices
Just stopped by the local pawnery and noticed a Shure SM96 (condensor) and an EV 650a (maybe it was a 670a) for about $50 each. I'm intrigued mostly by the SM96, but I searched quite a bit and didn't find any mentions. Anybody have any experience with either of these mics? Worth it?

Re: Guitar cab wiring question
Thanks for the reply - I'm not familiar with "checking the polarity with a 9volt..." What does this do, and how is it done? Do you mean checking which post is + or - ?

Guitar cab wiring question
Hey all, I have a 2-12 cabinet with 2 jacks in the back. One says "8 ohm top/4 ohm both", the other says "8 ohm bottom". So I'm assuming that the existing speakers are 8 ohms each. I want to put in some replacement speakers (16 ohm Celestions (G12T-75)). My assumption would be that I could just drop...

Re: mixing high end
I'm guessing because you're mixing in the box, your problems with high end may be the same I have - that is - guitars / cymbals / vocals have less than smooth high end to begin with being tracked digital. My work around has really gone beyond my expectations: a 2-track 1/4 inch machine. I run my gui...

Re: black lion bellari mp105 mod
yeah, I was wondering about the pots - thought it was just mine. I have to turn down my monitors when I adjust the pre because of the scratchiness. might be a good "second" mod to replace those bitches. I also wouldn't mind having them on the side or bottom, as it isn't somehing I want to display pr...

Re: black lion bellari mp105 mod
I have one, and did the mod. It is GREATLY improved, and to my ears does what I wanted it to. I have some "clean" pres on my mbox and a soundcraft board, the bellari with the mod has a slightly fatter sound, with a lot more coloration. Also, the mod seemed to remedy the problem I was having with the...

Re: Audiosuite plugs stopped working? PTLE
When you choose an A/S plug-in and the window for the plug-in opens, make sure that 'Use in Playlist' is highlighted. Otherwise it will process and place the processed audio in the audio regions bin rather than in the playlist on the track. You're awesome. I think this is exactly my problem, as I n...

Audiosuite plugs stopped working? PTLE
So all of my audiosuite plug-ins have seemingly stopped working... While previewing the selection, everything works fine, when I hit process, it goes through the motions, but then the track / selection is unchanged. Did I somehow turn off something? It is really wierd, especially since it acts like ...

Re: What's the big deal with Phish?
Yeah, thanks - feel free to apply it everywhere. I've been an "indie" musician since the term actually meant something, and I'm 'bout to start getting nasty with people who wrap themselves in the "indie flag" while spending their parents money on gear, having a full-time booking agent at their dispo...

Re: What's the big deal with Phish?
As a former Phish fan,and long-time musician I'd have to say that they should be lauded for their accomplishments. They've had an extremely successful and *long-term* career without using "mainstream" channels. Hell, I'm extremely envious of a band with such an avid fanbase. They are all excellent m...

Re: recording drums with the mbox
I worked around this by using a cassette 4-track, using the Glyn Johns mic technique, then had a friend with a MOTU unit transfer from the direct track outs to four digital tracks. If you only have access to the mbox, but can get a four track, I'd still say use the Johns mic setup, then mix from the...

Re: digidesign's M BOX???
yeah, i love mine too. the two track-thing can be an issue, as long as you are pretty positive that you won't need more, or have nother option when recording more than two sources it is pretty great. the pres are pretty colorless, and don't have a lot of gain, so i always end up using external pres....

Re: monitor question - please help
i did, but i wouldn't say i trusted the results. The place is like a hi-fi pawnshop, no real listening room. the clarity of the Yorkvilles seems much better than the jbl's - and i do like jbl speakers quite a bit. i'll be happy to post again once i've gotten them home and given them a test drive.
