Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Hi all - I *think* this is my first post on the Tape Op board. Who can remember anything anymore, though, right? I've got a DBX160XL on the way. I grabbed a Chameleon Labs 7802 compressor not long back but am convinced I'm too dim to use it properly. I like the soft & warm vibe it gives to vocals, b...

Ant, Andy and Morris, aka Three Minute Tease, go up a tree!
Hey all - I know there are a few Andy and Morris fans on this list (I count myself amongst!!), and I thought y'all might enjoy this no-budget video we've made for our song "Love Is Onion." We modeled it on the Beatles' "Rain promo film," but it def. veers into Monkees/Spinal Tap territory more than ...

PT8 vs. Mountain Lion
Greets all... I've just lost yet another second-hand MacBook Pro to a motherboard meltdown and am thinking maybe it's time to invest in a brand new computer. I'm looking at getting an iMac this time instead of another laptop. My question here is... is Mountain Lion compatible with PT8? The AVID site...

Hey guys - thanks for the suggestions. Really helps, as I get a bit overswamped whenever it's time to upgrade much of anything! I'll check out the drives you've mentioned. As messy a tech-dude as I am, I've always tried to make sure my multiple backups are kept current, at least with my PT files, bu...

Need help with hard drive decisions... (a dull, dry dilemma)
I'll try to be as uncluttered as I can, but I've got the very sort of situation that makes me make messes! Hoping someone here can lay down the law... I've got two laptops, a PowerBook G4 (10.4.11, 1.25GHz, 1GB SDRAM) on which I run PT 6.9.2 and a MacBook Pro (10.6.8, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB), ...

I've done a quickie video to go along with the now-extended track. As you'll see, my life in Berlin involves lots of dogs. And lots of stairs. Not much clubbing.

Thanks Carl. The track is not typical for me, and was done as a bit of a piss-take, but I'm still trying to tweak it with integrity. I've got it worked all the way up to 3:23 now - as ready for radio as the world wants it to be! The other song I've been recording lately is a slow, waltzy dirge, so "...

Clubbing In Berlin
Ok, this is for all the ex-pats amongst! I've been in Berlin for about 5 months now, and, far as I know, I haven't yet been clubbing. Still, it was a blast cranking out this track and I hope a few of you enjoy it as well, in all its 1:20 glory! http://soundcloud.com/anton-barbeau/klubbbing-in-berlin...

Hi Chris - yeah, I took screen shots of the troubled track in question as well as a healthy track as well so I could A/B the IO, as it were. Same settings for both sessions. Not that I know enough to articulate it, but I'm convinced the loud pop that accompanies the opening or closing of the session...

Hmmm -Thanks for the input. I've been staring at the I/O box, but all settings look the same as on other sessions. I thought maybe I was having glitchy problems due to my external drive getting too full up, so I cleared up about 50G. This helped with other problems, but not with the track in questio...

Lost in translation? PT6 to PT8 audio problem...
Hey all - I'm having a problem with a specific song recorded orig. in PT6.9.2 on my Powerbook G4. When I open the session in PT8 on my MacBook Pro, I'm hearing/seeing no audio sent to the master fader. The individual tracks show signal flowing, but nothing is reaching the master for some reason. I m...

This is another fun vid clip - from the session Morris and I did in Berlin just before Andy joined the band. The studio is Studio East in the massive Funkhaus, former DDR radio building.

Nice! What a rythym section, love those guys! Cheers! Yeah, they're heroes of mine, and it's been an amazing ride so far... Andy and I co-produced the album. He's, as you'd imagine, always operating to the highest standard whereas I'm coming from too many years of "by any means necessary," but it's...

Three Minute Tease
Hi all - I'm new to the Tape Op board, though I've been reading the mag for ages. John Botch was the first person to pull me from my basement 4-track studio and get me going in a proper joint with real mics and an actual coffee maker! This was John's Enharmonik Studios, cicra 1990. And I met Larry C...
