Re: which LDC or ribbon for mono overhead drum tracking?

[quote= The Mk012 Oktava matched pair I use on OH sometimes and they work well if you position/process/etc. good but not the easiest way to record smooth cymbals.. .[/quote] These are the only OH drum mics I have and my drummer has cheap trashy cymbals and the cymbal sound was making me kind of craz...

Just got an ART Digital MPA used off GC for 150.00 bucks. I know it's pretty low end, but that's how I roll. I used it for the first time tonight on drum overheads and was really happy. It seemed to make my drummers cheap cymbals a little bit smoother sounding.

I haven't recorded a ton of bassists, or bass amps, but my favorite bass sound I ever got was my SF Champ with a 50's style Weber speaker at a pretty low volume with either a Sennheiser e602 or a 57. Lately I've been using a RE 320 on my bassists TC Electronic amp. I'd like to come up with a good DI...

I barely recorded anything for the last five years and just recently go back into it. In the last year or so I've picked up a , ART VLA, RNC and I just ordered a used Art MPA. I'm trying to get all the things that were in fashion when I stopped recording. I also haven't been using the computer and b...

I've been on a guitar spree lately. Bought a Taylor Mini GS which is amazing, Holey Board pedal board, a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Plus to power the board, an EHX 22500 looper and a Joyo American Sound. On top of that my wife bought me a Fuzz Factory for my birthday.

I do vinyl, cd's and files. I'm just glad we have so many choices. I mean cd's are cool, but how cool is it that you can have your entire music collection with you for a long road trip or a vacation. I love being able to bring an iPod with everything on it in the car and a little bluetooth speaker f...

I liked my Pod XT until it died. The Zoom G5 is cool, but I like it more for effects then the amp sims.

Interesting that everyone answers about ITB stuff, and hardly any about hardware sims. Not that I expect people to post about their Fractals, but no V-Amps or Pods ... I keep looking for a good price on those character pedals, will buy one when I see it cheap. Personally I'd rather have the real th...

I'd suggest getting a Tech 21 Character series pedal. I have the Hiwatt version and would like to get more. If you don't want to splash for one of the Tech 21's the Joyo clones are very cheap and get good reviews. The thing I really like about these is that aside from sounding really good they take ...

For simple live recording I have the zoom h2 which records to an SD card. Cheap and cheerful. For multitrack recording I picked up a Korg D3200. These seem to be readily available used for 300-500. I paid 350.00 for mine and it's the best money I've spent in quite a while.

Not really a purchase per se, but I had bought a dvx 163x for fifteen bucks a while ago and it didn't work so I just had my tech fix it. Can't wait to fire it up.
