You've reminded me that I picked up a D130 a few years ago and figured it must be broken as I was getting very low levels and very 'thin' sound. I put it away as I'd got an old Shure omni around the same time that I was getting good results from. I must dig out the D130 again - I wondered if it was ...

Re: Dr. John

I was fortunate enough to be involved in this recent album by Mac. He is a really great person who is full of life and musical experience. It is a pleasure to be able to say I had the opportunity to work with such a talented artist and musician as Mac Rebbenack. Those guys on gearlutz are so silly!...

Looks great, very jealous of your block flooring and reverb chambers! :) Nice interview piece too - hope you're keeping busy!

Yeah it's sad that bands don't seem to do live sessions for radio anymore, Peel or otherwise. Live sessions for video on AOL and the like are fine, but there isn't so much of an emphasis on the audio quality or performances, maybe because the bands are concious of the cameras. There are still plent...

Definitely lots of hype in the UK about 4 years ago, mostly focused on her use of the Tenori-On, but I can't say I've seen much of her since ... But that's often the curse of the UK music press hype machine. :/

I'm using an old Alesis ADAT deck with my Motu828 Mk2 to give me an extra 8 channels of i/o via the S/PDIF connections. Don't use it all the time, but it's been very handy on the occasions I've needed it. Might be a cheap temporary option until your interface is back up and running?

I hear good things about the danelectro trems, but haven't used one. I've got the Danelectro Tuna Melt and rate it highly for such a budget pedal. I bought it to use with my Pianet T electric piano, but it's equally useful on guitar. I'm a fan of the hard/soft switch for those DJ-mixer-transformer ...

I loves me some well-placed Flexi-Tone. Almost as good as the old Vibra-Slap! GJ Indeed - although I held back on the Vibra-Slap for that one, no one likes an esoteric-percussion slut :) Although, listening to one of my favourite Vibra-slap intros has got me fiending for a cabasa now too : http://w...

Gregg Juke wrote:Nice! Great arrangement touches. Is that a real "Flexi-Tone" on the break, or a keyboard sample?

Thanks Gregg, and well spotted - 100% authentic live "Flexi-Tone", with a bit of delay chucked on it :D

More on the recording of Heroes than Low, but it talks (a bit) about the drum set up Dennis Davis used, and about the use of Event Harmoniser and room sound for reverb.

That doesn't sound like any elevator I've ever gotten on. Unfortunately. How are you getting that blown out drum sound on the breakdowns? Hehe, cheers Carl - just a bit of overdrive on the kick & room mic channels in Logic and then some compression on all 3 mics (kick, snare & room) as a group. Bas...

Don't blame the poor Marantz for being fussy, blame the CDR manufacturers for pandering to the 'burn as fast as possible' masses! The last few times I've had to burn at 1x, or seen others burning at 1x, this has been the disc of choice : http://www.hhb.co.uk/product_detail.php?id=238 They have...
